While the NHL and NHLPA continue to haggle over rekindling the World Cup of Hockey, it sounds like there’s already a gameplan for where the reborn tournament would take place. The Canadian Press’ Chris Johnston reports that Toronto would host the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Specifically, Johnston cited multiple sources that pointed to the Air Canada Centre as the venue for such an event.

During his pre-Game 1 press conference, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman described the idea of the World Cup of Hockey as “a great business opportunity” despite the idea not being “fully baked.”

Johnston indicates that a bidding process could eventually be instituted to host future World Cup of Hockey events:

In the future, it is believed that cities around the world might be subjected to a bidding process for the event, which one source indicated could generate as much as $100-million in revenue for the league and players.

The natural question is: “How might this affect the NHL’s participation in the Olympics?” Bettman said that hasn’t been discussed yet and didn’t really discuss the topic any further during Wednesday’s press conference.
