The New York Rangers still have a few days of rest ahead of them before the Stanley Cup Final starts, but at the moment it’s not clear who their backup goaltender will be in Game 1.
Rookie Cam Talbot did a superb job in that role during the regular season, but he wasn’t able to participate in Sunday’s practice. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault revealed that he’s day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, per NHL.com. He didn’t provide any further details.
Talbot has appeared in relief of Henrik Lundqvist twice in the 2014 playoffs, but obviously Lundqvist will continue to start in every game unless he suffers an injury.
If Talbot isn’t available for Game 1, then 31-year-old journeyman goaltender David Leneveu will likely take his place.
Meanwhile Rangers forward J.T. Miller (upper body) also missed the team’s practice, but he did skate afterwards.
