Coach Q may tweak lineup; Versteeg coming out?

May 29, 2014, 4:14 PM EDT

Don’t expect to see Kris Versteeg in the Blackhawks’ lineup for Friday’s big game in Los Angeles. The 28-year-old winger was benched for most of last night’s Game 5 of the Western Conference Final, his last shift coming in the second period when Dustin Brown scored to tie the contest 3-3.

As you can see, Versteeg couldn’t make the play along the boards to make sure the puck got out. On top of that, he was also on the ice for the Kings’ first goal. And let’s just say he had a pretty great view of it:

Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said today that he may tweak the lineup for tomorrow’s game. Peter Regin, Joakim Nordstrom, and Jeremy Morin were among the scratches last night.

The Brown video leaves out the best part!

L.A. had the puck in the first place because Versteeg (badly) coughed up the puck while trying to advance it into the offensive zone.

Then he tried to come off the ice. After some awkwardness, he realized he couldn’t, and went back into the defensive zone, and that’s where the video picks up.

If it wasn’t an elimination playoff game, I would have watched that a few times for the sheer comedy.

He’s sucked all year. Time and time again Q has given Versteeg a chance to get it together, and each time Kris has failed to be any better than mediocre.

Shouldn’t have been in the lineup at all. It is definitely telling when the team plays better when Versteeg is plastered to the bench.

Regin, Nordstrom, Morin, hell even Brookbank at forward would provide more positives and fewer turnovers than this broken version of Versteeg.

ABSOLUTELY the truth ! i wonder if that genius STANLEY ever thought maybe there was a positive reason that TORONTO and FLORIDA gave up on him ? my pick would be NORDSTROM first then MORIN , VERSTEEG would be sent to STAN’S office to see if he had any use for him !

I will admit, I was looking forward to the return of Kris Versteeg when the trade was announced earlier this season. Unfortunately he did not live up to expectations. Any chance we can get Jimmy Hayes back?

Who do you guys want in the lineup in his place, Regin or Morin?

    • slysipops - May 29, 2014 at 6:27 PM

anyone of those 2 or NORDSTROM ! my first pick …NORDSTROM …he will hit , but so will MORIN , so it’s a toss ! i felt like you did at first but VERSTEEG has been nothing like he was with his first stint with the HAWKS . yeah a shame we can’t retrieve HAYES ! DALE is probably having a good laugh on that trade ! STAN BOWMAN is pathetic …. probably just job the job so daddy would hang around and help! could you imagine him doing his job BUILDING a team ? hopefully some one will wake up and can him !

another $hitty part of the VERSTEEG trade was losing OLSEN too ! good young d man ……. it really sucked !

I won’t even mention Morin, because Q clearly won’t play him. Regin definitely.

Bollig only played 8 minutes or off an 82 minute game. That is a waste of a spot. If Q doesn’t want Morin or Nordstrom, maybe even bring Brookbank back to wing? Can he really be any worse than Versteeg or Bollig?

Also, I , too was excited when they brought him back.

I think one of those guys is going to get a shot because I suspect Shaw is re-injured. He was playing on one leg in the first overtime; and not well.

I love the guy, but if he can’t go 90% he shouldn’t be on the ice, and I’m not sure we saw him at 50% in that overtime.

I agree on Morin – had a great AHL year, did well in the NHL late season – shoots well, will get physical (kinda important vs the Kings)
