PHT Extra: What’s been key for Kings? Killer for Hawks?

May 27, 2014, 6:23 PM EDT

After losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2013 Western Conference finals, the Los Angeles Kings are one win away from exacting revenge in this rematch. Let’s make no mistake about, it, too; they’re doing so in impressive fashion.

Still, many wonder why the Kings are often running roughshod over the ‘Hawks so far. Jason Brough and Mike Halford tackle that subject in the latest edition of PHT Extra, touching on the key addition of Marian Gaborik, Chicago’s second-line center deficit and other factors:

    – Dave Bolland was a better center last year than Handzus and Shaw this year.
    – The tandem of Kruger and Frolik were better on the PK than Kruger and Handzus.
    – The Kings are doing, offensively, what needs to be done. Getting pucks and people to the net. Last year, not so much.
    – Kings are doing the little things that the Hawks did last year. Winning face offs, not taking dumb penalties, winning one on one battles in the corners and behind the net, and establishing their game for longer, consistent stretches of the game.
    – Kings last year played St. Louis in the first round, this year the Hawks did. I don’t care what anyone says, but the Blues are a bad bunch of m’fers. Playing them takes a physical toll on a team. If I’m not mistaken, the Blues-Kings series last year had a couple of overtime games, much like the Hawks this year. Those are like playing two games.
    – Kings are better offensively than last year. They can skate with the Hawks. Last year, they couldn’t.

Guys like Kopitar have stepped up and shut down the offensive threats from Chicago. No one on Chicago has shut down Carter and company.

Hawks were lucky to play a physically damaged kings squad last was in the sharks series last year that key injuries were suffered in games six and seven.

“but the Blues are a bad bunch of m’fers. Playing them takes a physical toll on a team” …

    BINGO !!! … WE HAVE A WINNER !!!!!!

Sorry about your hamstring friend … nonetheless, that’s ‘exactly’ what I’ve been saying here at PHT for the last 12 months ! … there’s something really ‘creepy and weird’ about the Blues and contact with them can have a bad effect on a team ? … plus it takes almost ‘herculean’ efforts to get rid of them ? … we Kings learned that the hard way last year and it cost us ‘dearly’ in the end … and now I suspect that the Blackhawks are coming to find that out for themselves too ? …

GO KINGS GO !!! … TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to ask just one question. Where are all the columnists and so called experts who said that gaborik was a bad choice??? Remember all those news and reports? Or everybody all of a sudden went blank! When are they gonna say sorry, I made a mistake??? Blake was probably the only person on earth who still believed in him!!! Let’s go kings! Let’s go Marian!!!! :))))

      hello Peter …
please know friend that I am ‘not’ one of those ! … on the contrary, I was fully in favor of the Gaborik acquisition right from day one … I offer you the following testimony which I presented here at PHT back on March 5th …

blomfeld, how do you feel about this addition? Not sure he and coach Sutter will be on the same page day-in and day-out.

My friend, my comrade, my fellow Roman. I can assure you Josef that my feelings about this ‘glorious’ acquisition are no less ‘music to my ears’ than Elvis being offered up another dozen ‘caramelized’ doughnuts back in circa 75-77 ! Yes sir, the Western Conference is about to be turned upside down, as we Kings are now going to go on the offensive in a way which hasn’t been seen since the Oiler days of the mid 80′s ! Hold on to your hat friend, as ‘hell hath no fury’ like a King’s army on the march !!! :)

      GO GABORIK !!
