Edmonton Oil Kings win 2014 Memorial Cup

May 25, 2014, 7:38 PM EDT

The Edmonton Oil Kings beat the Guelph Storm 6-3 on Sunday to win the 2014 Memorial Cup.

The Oil Kings boast some players likely to become familiar with NHL fans in the near future, possibly even beginning in the 2014-15 season. The biggest standouts include Griffin Reihnart (the fourth pick in 2012 by the New York Islanders) and Henrik Samuelsson (27th overall in the same year by the Phoenix Coyotes), although Edgars Kulda took the tournament MVP.

Stunning result as the OKs somehow found their legs despite a 3OT game 2 days ago and they weather the Storm! Congrats!

After playing double-overtime and triple-overtime games in the playoffs, the Oil Kings weren’t expected to beat Guelph today. These guys played their hearts out. Congrats to them! And, congratulations to the Storm. Great game to watch!

Looking forward to seeing these guys in the NHL in the future.

Griffin Reinhart will be on the Island for 2014-15. Isles should look at using a later pick for Kulda as well.

Good job Oil Kings… If hockey was played this way all the time it would be the number one sport …. But I guess you could say the same about all sports come playoff time…

Congrats to the Oil Kings; it’s good to see a great hockey city like Edmonton get rewarded, even if it isn’t in the NHL. I’m sure the fans there are smart enough to appreciate the win.

I’m also happy as a Wings fan about how both Mantha and Bertuzzi played for the Storm and the Foreurs this year. The future looks bright! Not sure how the Wings manage to find guys like this when they draft so low. Sproul last year, and these 2 guys this year… amazing. So spoiled :)
