On Friday, the Bruins announced that forwards Milan Lucic and Chris Kelly underwent successful surgeries to repair wrist and back ailments, respectively.

“Milan underwent successful surgery to repair his right wrist,” B’s GM Peter Chiarelli said in a statement. “Chris also underwent successful surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back. Both players are expected to be ready for the start of Training Camp.”

Following Boston’s second-round elimination to Montreal, Lucic was sporting a cast on his wrist, which he hurt during the Game 7 loss at TD Garden.

“I got it caught and jammed it in the first period of last game,” Lucic explained, per CBS Boston. “Unfortunately now I have to get an MRI on it, so hopefully there’s nothing too bad in there other than just a sprain.”

Kelly, meanwhile, missed the final three games of the regular season and entire playoffs with the herniated disc. He had tried to rehab it without going under the knife in the hopes of participating in the postseason — a move that ultimately failed.

“I was trying to do everything I could not to have surgery in order to play. But this season’s done now, I’ll probably go ahead and end up getting it fixed,” Kelly said. “I hurt it in Minnesota [April 8]. My back seized up on me. I thought I caught it soon enough, but after that I was pretty sore for a while.”

Lucic had a pretty solid year health-wise, appearing in 80 of 82 games while scoring 24 goals and 59 points. Kelly wasn’t as fortunate, missing 22 games earlier in the year with a fractured right fibula.

Wrist? They should still poke around and see if there is a brain in that head while they have him under.

I’m guessing it had something to do with the handshakes, he grabbed Emelin’s hand pretty roughly

Did they remove every fragment of stone that was in there too?

Would have loved to have seen the look on Lucic’s face if his anesthesiologist would have said to him just before putting him under sedation “I’m going to f—— kill you before you go under the knife”. Milan probably would have crapped the bed.

OMG I know right, gosh you are too funny. The image of a doctor saying that and Lucic defecating himself is awfully humor provoking. It’s funny because Lucic said that same thing in the handshake line, did you know that, oh the irony. These jokes are all on point and incredible, thank you all!

Weird, mods here didn’t allow my quoted IGTFKY joke the other day.

So I have a comment actually pertaining to hockey instead of this redundant Bruins hate… Will the B’s be able to buy out Kelly? At what point will he not be considered “injured”? I honestly believe he’s gone but this could throw a huge wrench in Chia’s offseason plans

    • imleftcoast - May 23, 2014 at 3:18 PM

I’d describe it as poor sportsmanship hate. ‘Bruins hate’ is just self pitying Boston nonsense.

      • shaundre93 - May 23, 2014 at 3:47 PM

I’d agree with you but for the last few months I haven’t been able to come on this site to actually talk hockey. Usually just end up being called racist, ignorant or some kind of blood thirsty knuckledragger just cuz I root for Boston. Its getting old

Hey Lefty, speaking of poor sports, you’re a Canucks fan, right?

I’m sure by now you realize nobody hates or trolls the Canucks any more because they are a garbage team that has fallen so far out of contention it’s not even funny (to anyone in Vancouver that is, to the rest of us it’s hilarious)

In 2011 they had a bright future, but were sent into a tail spin by the Bruins and are now just another crap team struggling to find a way to be competitive again. It’s okay buddy, all franchises go through it at some point or another.

Keep trolling Bruins articles, we all know it’s 100 % sour grapes.

And chin up buckaroo, I’m sure the Canucks will be a contender again in the future. Maybe a long way off in the future, but they’ll win a cup some day.

        Maybe.

        Have a great weekend!

Hey gally, you should have added that since the Canucks couldn’t beat the Bruins, they decided to hire someone from them!

None of the comments made towards Mr. Lucic would ever have been directed his way if he had conducted himself to the Code that most other NHL players adhere to at the end of a playoff series. If Milan is going to dish out verbal garbage then he has to expect to receive it as well. It’s surprising anyone would defend such a bully and a cretin.

    • topshelf37 - May 23, 2014 at 4:04 PM

Calm down Dexter, “the Code” runs plentiful with players who do not play as aggressively or chirp as much as Lucic. He is such a cretin, I hope he poos himself like you had mentioned before.

    • gallyhatch - May 23, 2014 at 4:51 PM

hieronymous, to suggest this all started with the handshake line would lead me to believe you are new to this site or haven’t been paying attention over the last couple of years.

Lucic has been a punching bag around these parts for a long long time.

Is a lot, if not most of the criticism well deserved? Absolutely it is, but to suggest this all started last week is foolish.

  7. hieronymous27 - May 23, 2014 at 5:30 PM

Gallyhatch, just because I limited my comments to Milan Lucic’s remarks at the conclusion of the 7 game series against Montreal doesn’t mean I’m unaware of his tendencies to spear an opponent in a tender area as he did in a regular season game in March against Montreal or what he did to Danny DeKeyser in the first round of the playoffs against Detroit. The tie-in to Lucic’s verbal threat and his recent surgery was just too good to pass on. What do you want me to do, write an entire book of the way this guy is an embarrassment to hockey? Geez Murphy, get a life, or at least find something legitimate to complain about.

    • thesportsjudge - May 23, 2014 at 5:58 PM

Oh, so you are a hockey fan for the past year only? Way to clear that up!

in a post operative interview conducted by jolly fingers, intrepid science reporter for the distinguished medical journal, The Speculative Speculum …

an interning milan lucic was asked if he would be willing to share results from his own experiments in proctology wherein carbon fibre tools were used to replace traditional examination instruments during the nhl regular season and the stanley cup playoffs

a seemingly distracted and disassociated lucic focussed rather on his own recent surgery, contending his core temperature may have been taken by a huge man in green mask and gown, wearing latex gloves, resting each on right and left shoulders during the procedure …?

raving on-and-on, he further questioned operative procedures presenting stainless steel stirrups for simple wrist repair … unusual to say the least advanced a purple-faced lucic, himself capable of exploratory in-game procedures dispensing with examination table, or sinister stainless steel instruments typically stored in refrigerators

pursuing an evolving story line, fingers asked lucic if his wrist injury was perhaps product of strain typical to persons conducting experiments on the frontier of science … milan chose to blame one daniel dekeyser instead, suggesting dekeyser’s own hulk caused the wrist injury during an innocent yet professional attempt to sling dekeyser into the rafters at td gardens …?

still groggy and sore our patient finally began to relax, but not until nurse helga’s timely morphine drip took hold … smiling and sleepy he drifted off with visions of a texas catheter dancing in his head

later milan later later laaaaater, we’re short on pepper and tweezers tehhe he heee he hee

    ooooooh oooooooo

Hey MF, was he “petulant” or “pestilent”?…I’ll give you some time to go look them up. While you’re at it, why don’t you look up “pretentious” and “insipid”…or better yet “pseudo-intellectual ass-hat”.

What is it with the use of all these rather large, smart words being used on here….no room for that in a hockey forum….prochesstalk.Com is a great website…get on it
