Video: USA out, Russia (with Ovechkin) advances to semis in Worlds

Team USA got two late goals from Tyler Johnson, but it wasn’t enough, as the Americans fell 4-3 to the Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the 2014 IIHF World Championship.

Meanwhile, Russia advanced to the semis with a 3-0 win over France, a game that saw Alex Ovechkin back in the lineup, albeit while wearing a knee brace as a result of the hit he took Sunday versus Germany.

“Of course it was a bit awkward to skate in the brace,” said Ovechkin. “But I think I’ll play without it the next game and everything will be okay. I wasn’t risking anything, I knew the brace would protect me in case of a collision. That’s what happened in the first period and I immediately knew that the leg is reacting well. I was about 90 percent ready. And I didn’t take any pain killers at all.”
