Video: Latvia upsets USA at World Championship

May 15, 2014, 1:44 PM EDT

Not a banner day for USA Hockey today in Minsk, where the Americans were beaten, 6-5, by Latvia in preliminary-round action at the World Championship.

“Six goals is just too many,” said American d-man Seth Jones. “We have to help Tim [Thomas, the USA goalie] better than we did today.”

The U.S. takes on winless Kazakhstan tomorrow.

Not sure how, but I’m sure this is somehow Dan Bylsma fault.

Does anyone actually watch the World Championship?

It’s taken very seriously around the world. But since most Americans live in an ego-centric bubble, they don;t know or care.

Since we scrape together a bunch of guys off of eliminated teams, nobody cares. Canadians care b/c it’s all they care about.

No reason to even have these stupid world championships in an Olympic year.

I love this tourney, Cause international hockey is awesome, but of course NHL playoffs take number 1. Europeans take this more seriously as we all know. I was surprised lavy started thomas again. If we lose too Kazakhstan can somebody kill my stool cause the noose will already be on.

    Teddy Nolan and Zemgus Girgensons…

The future of the Buffalo Sabres…and two tough S.O.B.’s that will change the culture.

(It would have been nice if you wrote something about the game…who scored?)

I’d bet money on Kaspers Daugavins coming over to Buffalo this year too.

Damn, bring all of Latvia to Buffalo! Lol.
