Video: Martin St. Louis gets emotional discussing Game 7, support from Rangers

May 13, 2014, 11:05 PM EDT

People often complain about post-game interviews because cliches and platitudes abound in many of those bits of commentary. Every now and then, a player opens up and shares a raw reaction that might not come even just minutes later at a press conference.

After a gutsy Game 7 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers winger Martin St. Louis provided an emotional take on how his teammates supported him following his mother’s passing:

Believe me when I say, I’m very happy. Marty and Richie helped the Bolts even if it was one last time. I really wish Marty 100% success and for him to help bring the Cup to NY.

When Stammer had gotten hurt, he was the one along with Coop to keep the Bolts going. I refuse to look at the trade and be bitter about it. Marty did so much for us.

The Lightning’s conditional 2014 pick just became a 1st rounder. Thought this would be where I stopped cheering for the Rangers but I can’t pass up a Marty/Richards line. Too many memories. Go Rangers! (for the rest of the playoffs)
