It’s usually a big deal to score the first goal of any game. That’s been especially true in the second round of this postseason and with the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins; the team that managed a 1-0 lead won the first six games of his second-round series.
If that pattern holds true, then the Rangers are in good shape. Brian Boyle capped an odd-man rush with a goal to put the Rangers up 1-0, a lead they’re carrying into the first intermission:
