Video: Roenick weighs in on how Bruins targeted Subban in Game 5

May 11, 2014, 12:02 AM EDT

It seems to have overshadowed a hard-fought win for the Boston Bruins on Saturday.

Bruins’ forward Shawn Thornton was caught on video spraying water from a water bottle at Montreal Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban during play late in the third period of Game 5. Subban was incensed, going straight to the referee at a stoppage in play.

Jeremy Roenick weighed in on how the Bruins were able to get to Subban in this most crucial game.

I thought all the massholes were complaining that the whole hockey world was making this stuff out to be such a huge deal! I even saw that one particularly bright guy was denying the race element emphatically. What race element? What hate has been poured on Boston from this game?

For the record, everyone (save Subban and some super Habs homers, of course) think it’s closer to funny than outrageous. Boston people ALWAYS think they have to fight their way out of every situation and then they wonder why everyone talks trash on their teams and fans.

Get a clue, boston! Subban vs. Bruins is great stuff!! This is what rivalries are about

Nope, everyone has pointed out that media outlets are trying to drive this story and people who have played hockey know this is no big deal as JR mentioned.

Bullfrogs. I’ve never seen anything quite so bush as a player on the bench squirting a player in the face, but then, I’ve only been into hockey for 50+ years. That a simpleton like JR found it funny is reason enough to question it. And does anyone really doubt that if it had been reversed, a Hab squirting a Bruin, that they’d have screamed bloody murder?

I saw it all the way up through college so I’m not sure why you missed it.

oh there’s a commercial before the actual content I came to see? Sorry Jeremy, I don’t care what you have to say if I have to watch some ad first.

my favorite is when it’s a seven second clip that requires you to wtch a 30 second spot…then you go “yknow I didn’t quite get the feel of what happened in 7 seconds, let’s take another look” and you have to watch the SAME AD AGAIN

Whine much, habs homers? Subban dives, throws cheap, intent to injure elbows, drops down to injure knees when receiving a check…and if he gets squirted with water, it’s an uproar??
Please, you showboating, immature POS, fight Thornton as often as possible. The Bruins will gladly take the trade off with both of you off the ice.
Subban; million dollar talent, ten cent brain.

NothanksImdriving. Sitting in your moms basement playing NHL on your SEGA for 50 years doesn’t count you bum. Stop crying. If you’re still really upset you can always call 9-1-1. What a bunch of pansies!
