Vlasic (upper body) to miss Game 7

Apr 30, 2014, 2:31 PM EDT

In one of the biggest games in franchise history, the San Jose Sharks will be without one of their best defensemen.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic will miss his second straight contest tonight when the Sharks host the Kings in Game 7 of their first-round series — a series that San Jose once led 3-0.

Vlasic, 27, suffered what’s being called an upper-body injury in Game 5 on a hit (plus forearm to the head) by L.A.’s Jarret Stoll:

Vlasic, a member of Team Canada’s gold-medal winning squad in Sochi, led the Sharks in average even-strength ice time during the regular season and finished a team-high plus-31.

What if the Sharks lose tonight? We discussed that yesterday in PHT Extra:

it’s a bummer for any player that cannot participate due to an injury, i wish him nothing but the speedist recovery.

For the life of me I still can’t see how that was a bad hit on vlasic. Even in slow motion I don’t see anything that happened in that instance that doesn’t happen 50 times a night in the NHL. All players give a little extra shove if their hit wasn’t very impactful. The only bad thing about it was that vlasic got injured in some way.

Tough break for Vlasic and the Sharks… I can’t imagine battling all thru training camp, the regular season and then the start of playoffs only to have to watch your team play in a game 7 and not be able to be with your team on the ice due to injury. Gotta be such a helpless feeling, get well soon Vlasic.
