And then there were 10: Flyers eliminated

One could argue that the Philadelphia Flyers spend enough money and make the kind of bold moves that every season should be considered “Stanley Cup or bust.” In that frame of mind, falling in the first round is obviously a big disappointment. If you look at the team more realistically – especially considering its tough start and last season’s flop – there are some definite positives to take from the Flyers’ 2013-14 season, however.

(For some, the most disappointing thing might just be a controversial hybrid icing call, though …)

Let’s take a look at an up-and-down year for “The Broad Street Bullies.”

If nothing else, the Flyers showed the kind of fight their market values this season. It wasn’t always easy in 2013-14, yet this bunch showed that they’re willing to grind their way out of tough situations. The question is: what’s their ceiling in 2014-15?

  1. President Charles Logan - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:09 PM

look on the bright side flyers , least you got a decent goalie for a few years down the road

    • maalea - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:12 PM

And all those naysayers, he looks damn good at $4.1M for 3 years.

      • President Charles Logan - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:13 PM

i was one of them . i told a few of ya’ll that trading for ryan miller was a better idea.. (which is perspective it is) but buffalo wouldnt have dealt him to philly

      • phillyphanatic77 - May 1, 2014 at 6:52 AM

Ryan Miller proved down the stretch that he’s no longer worth his ridiculous price tag. A .903 sv% (regular season in St. Louis) with that team in front of him is ghastly. I mean their defense alone is 10x better than the Flyers. And it got even worse in the playoffs. Not only would trading for Miller have cost plenty of assets, it wouldn’t have improved the Flyers chances. Mason is the present and future. He’s on the upswing, Miller’s trending down.

But atleast you admitted you were wrong.

  2. canucks30 - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:11 PM

I’m sure Paul Holmgren will keep things exciting this Summer

  3. notmrknowitall - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:14 PM

Inconsistency remains a huge problem with this team…and it’s been happening for years. Somehow the defense needs to be revamped. Timonen will be gone freeing up some cap space for a #1 guy I hope. MacDonald was a good addition, Luke Schenn played much better once McD got here and they were paired together. Not sure what has happened to Coburn…but he needs to be a 3rd 4th guy. Doubt that Morin would be ready next year. I’m sure the main offseason point of focus will be a free agent dman.
They need to figure out how to use Lacavallier effectively. He’s here a good number of years still. My one beef on Berube this year is not figuring out how to use this guy properly.
For the most part the core of this team is still fairly young. It’s a step forward from last years pathetic season. Mason looks entirely capable of being that steady goaltender you need to win in the playoffs.
Not happy with their play in this series at all. The only game they really put in a full effort was game 6. But at least I can say this season was a step forward and not backwards.

    • c9castine - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:14 PM

Yikes. Low standards on the other side of the state, eh?

      • bigbenrapedhinesward - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:40 PM

As compared to??? Chokesburgh? Finally made it back to round two… Congrats! Pat yourself And your boyfriend on the back. :)

      • c9castine - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:52 PM

finally made it back to round 2…yeah its been a long time. since last year in fact! what a journey…

      • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:28 AM

Maybe y’all will be able to crap out more than 2 goals this year, eh.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 12:30 AM

there he is. but your a little off. see we won round 2 last year also. crapped out two goals in the 3rd round.

yeah, maybe. rather be there and lose then never be there at all.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:32 AM

Nice to know your happy with losing. it suits your teams fair weather fan base.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 12:39 AM

haha, happy with losing suits fan weather fans?

that makes absolutely no friggin sense. why would a fair weather fan be happy with losing…thats that anti-fairweather.

haha real smart broadstreet. just come back next year.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:46 AM

Sweet baby jesus! Are you drunk or just a drooling idiot. I’m not one for being a grammar nazi, but hot damn. Pick up English for Dummies. Just trying to decipher your post made my head hurt.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 12:49 AM

haha yeah that was pretty bad after re-reading. your head hurts because you tried to think…it will go away quick.

let me try again. why would fair weather fans be happy with losing. the very definition of being a fair weather fan means that when the team is losing, you are unhappy, not even a fan at all.

think before you say things…you made no sense at all.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:58 AM

Are you trying to still trying to rectify the abortion of the English language you posted? Its Ok I forgive you bud.

      • pittsburghmohawk - May 1, 2014 at 1:47 AM

Seems to me, Broadstreet knows all about losing, being a Flyer fan and all. Next year will make 4 decades of losing. Congratulations!

      • willkill4caffeine - May 1, 2014 at 8:22 AM

pittsburghmohawk is breathing a huge sigh of relief with how Game 7 turned out. The prospect of the Pens having to play the Flyers in Round 2 probably gave him nightmares.

      • whammy87 - May 1, 2014 at 9:21 AM

First off, filthy sux. They are in need of a real captain and a real coach. Second, this goes out to broadstreetbeatdown. It’s you’re as in YOU ARE…as in “you are out of the playoffs again”. Your can be used correctly like this ” your team sucks”. I love how YOU’RE telling folks how to use proper English in the lower replies. You’re obviously a filthy fan. It just oozes out of YOUR replies. You don’t need a handle that say you’re a filthy fan, we can all tell.

        Lets Go pens.

        p.s. 1975 FOREVER!

  4. aprez522 - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:15 PM

Nice little run, but let’s be honest here, we all knew deep down this was not a cup team. One could argue they may have slipped past the Penguins, certainly not Boston, nor any team coming out of the west.

The defense needs a total overhaul. The JVR for Schen swap just continues to frustrate me. Coburn was bad, I question how much he has left, Timmonen may be done, shame he didn’t get one. Macdonald could be ok.

Giroux needs another superstar to help, vinny was ok but aging, Simmonds has a bright future.

Good series, just wish it had a more memorable moment, kind of dull.

  5. crazemastercraze - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:16 PM

What happened? I thought they were going all the way?

    • phillyphanatic77 - May 1, 2014 at 6:45 AM

You’re the only idiot who kept perpetuating that, despite not having any proof that anything of the sort was said by anyone. Did some Flyers fans say they’d beat the Rangers? Yeah. Did any fans of any team say we were winning the Cup? Not that I saw. Give it a rest already.

      • crazemastercraze - May 1, 2014 at 10:11 PM

It’s so easy to get under your skin. Sorry for not being one of the Philly sheep who spew the typical flyers approval junkie rhetoric you so crave

  6. stixzidinia - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:18 PM

The icing call…… mean the one at the very end? The Ranger clearly won that race and it was plain as day. There is absolutely no controversy there. At all.

    • stakex - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:36 PM

Indeed. The only controversy was that the linesman actually called it icing in the first place.

    • James O'Brien - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:41 PM

It was just generally a situation people had a problem with and was an awkward way to end the game. I agree that the Rangers won the race.

  7. President Charles Logan - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:19 PM

brayden schenn was awful in this series, over rated over hyped and trade bait . her sister luke wasnt much better even with macdonald around.

    • laxman1944 - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:03 PM

And Girwho wore a skirt and Hartnell drank tea with his pinkie out……….VETO!

    • flyerspsu - May 1, 2014 at 1:05 AM

i agree, i want to give brayden schenn time to develop considering hes only 22 and just put up 20 goals in his 1st full nhl season but his hockey IQ is brutal and he disappears for weeks

i still want to wait on him unless there is a great trade you cant pass up like lets a stud like Shattenkirk for schenn and not too much more but i doubt that

the problem is the Flyers core has too many “character” guys that lack speed, skill or hockey IQ and you just cant win consistently that way, their character is why they have come back so much and can beat the best on a given day, but they cant contend for a cup with this team

it would be ideal to move Hartnell and Lecavalier but both are signed long term w/ a no trade clause … so i have no idea how Holmgren or who is the Flyers gm fixes that

  8. blueshirtsfaithful - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:19 PM

Goodnight and Good fight flyers see you in October

  9. herc883 - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:23 PM

Coburn is going to the Oilers. Winner of Boston-Montreal will win the east. I believe it will be Boston but Habs will give them fits with their speed. Minnesota and LA will win tonight but it won’t matter. Ducks vs Hawks in the west and Hawks will win. Iginla will win the cup and he will smash PK Subban in the process. I see things when I close my eyes….

    • President Charles Logan - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:38 PM

      pk subban is trash

      • laxman1944 - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:06 PM

PK has actually developed into a scary good blue liner.

        And you El Presidente

        Impeachment is the only way.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:31 AM

can’t argue with you on that one Chucky. PK and Letang are crap Dmen.

  10. notmrknowitall - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:29 PM

to the guy who claims the Rangers guy won the race to the puck….learn the rules. The refs screwed up.
The race is to the hashmaks on the face off circle and it’s who’s skate crosses that line first and they showed the replay and Timonen’s skate clearly was there first.
However, there is no controversy here because even if they had got it right, there is no way the Flyers would have won the face off. They never win important face offs. Given there would have been 3 seconds left, that miracle had no chance of happening.

    LOL giroux

  12. notmrknowitall - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:42 PM

stakex….he made the right call. In typical NHL ref fashion they over ruled the call when it was actually the right call. NHL officiating at it’s typical best.

  13. c9castine - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:49 PM

what a joke of a fan base, more than anything here.

im sure we wont see the usual suspects in here running their mouths for a while. broadstreetbeatdown, ibie, phillyphanatic, flyerspsu, yad yada. i see none of them yet.

an entire year of talking crap on pittsburgh, and you go down in the first round a year after not even making the playoffs at all. you thought you had that series in the bag before it ever even started.

now what? i would really like to hear what they have to say. im sure theyll just keep repeating the same crap over and over like they have been all year, and it will be even more meaningless than it was then.

go home flyers, well see you next year. try not to hurt your wrists golfing.

    • c9castine - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:04 PM

oh but im sure theyll come in and click the “thumbs down ” button.

      • flyerspsu - May 1, 2014 at 1:18 AM

right here, as much as I commented and defended the Flyers I was always hard on them and was one of the guys asking for the team to be blown up in the beginning of the year, that was a bit much but I knew how flawed the Flyers were and had the Rangers winning in 6 actually, they matched up too well vs the Flyers and owned them at MSG

the Flyers need to change a lot, when half of your core lacks speed, skill or hockey IQ that isnt going to work, it would work great vs the Pens and certain teams but not in the big picture

    • laxman1944 - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:08 PM

Good luck with The Blue Shirts……….

    • bigbenrapedhinesward - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:45 PM

Lol don’t hurt your fingers letting your mommy know you love her, I sure didn’t :). It’s just hockey dude… On a forum… Get laid…. By someone not related to you.

      • c9castine - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:51 PM old are you? im 27 and married. so, kinda funny how you worded that.

i think ill get laid but, technically shes related to me.

    • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:37 AM

I’m here running my mouth. I apologize for not showing up earlier but unlike you fanboy, I have a life outside of PHT and the internet in general. I bet you and your online girlfriend or boyfriend are really happy tonight you won’t have to watch Beach Ball Fleury get embarrassed by the Flyers again.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 12:42 AM

read the comment above yours. get some new material.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - May 1, 2014 at 12:50 AM

The nonsensical one with the horrible grammar? I tried to read it but I need to enlist the help of a linguist to decipher it. I’ll get back to you on that.

    • phillyphanatic77 - May 1, 2014 at 6:14 AM

Try not to be so much of a hypocrite in your comments: “an entire year of talking crap on Pittsburgh”… how long have you been dumping on the Flyers? And instigating like this? The moment we lose a game 7 you can’t control your giddy self and hafta jump on here to rip the team and the fans.

Any Flyers fan with a brain could see the severe flaws… a team with no speed, a penchant for turning the puck over (incessantly), and a mediocre (at best) D corps. You don’t need to tell us how much of a disappointment this ending was. We all knew this wasn’t a Cup team. Still I’m positive most Pens fans are ecstatic that they’re seeing the Rangers and not the Flyers, even if we’re severely flawed.

Say what you will about Philly but there’s no denying that Holmgren will do some serious maneuvering this summer to make the team better. Unfortunately the off-season is usually the most exciting time to be a Flyers fan.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 1:37 PM

ive been dumping on the flyers since 1989 when my dad told me it was the right thing to do.

the difference is what i say has merit. what you guys say, that pittsburgh is a bunch of chokers, fluery cant save a beach ball, cindy is a diver….none of it has any substance to it.

you guys have an oppurtunity every year, every day for that matter to point out things that are actually wrong with the penguins. thats fine even great teams have holes, and right now we have a few more than some of the other top teams in the league. but instead, you choose to call a team that has 3 stanley cups in the last 25 years and has missed the playoffs 4 times in the same time frame.

dont act like both sides arent guilty of the same things, the instigating, the trolling, the just plain crap talking…. but the fact is the Penguins have more success recently. flyers did a great job of beating us in the playoffs. good. then you lost in the second round.

we beat you twice, and each time went to the final. won one of those. unless your boston or chicago, you have NOTHING on the pens. and really boston doesnt either. unless they win this year both teams ultimately have almost identical track records the past 10 years. in fact, boston committed the ultimate choke against your team.

like i said, start coming up with something substantive and you wont have to look like such an idiot when your team bows out again while the pens are still alive.

    • phillyphanatic77 - May 1, 2014 at 6:24 AM

Also, I’d like to add that not once in this series did I “run my mouth… (as if I) thought (we) had that series in the bag before it even started”. The Rangers have had our number for 3+ years and nothing changed. I was never confident in the Flyers chances. They outplayed us in 6 out of 7 games of this lackluster series. If not for Mason the Flyers probably would’ve been eliminated sooner. I give NY credit, but I’m also embarrassed by the lack of effort from many, many big money players.

A lot needs to change, but I’m atleast pleased that our net woes appear to be solved.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 1:39 PM

im not joey4id…i dont have an archive of what everybody says.

there was a lot of comments coming from your side to the effect of winning that series cause watch out pens here we come for you.

i will give you that. only took 15 years but you finally found a real goaltender and it looks like your GM isnt gonna screw it up this time. now if you could just get him to stop signing stupid contracts with defenseman.

    • willkill4caffeine - May 1, 2014 at 8:24 AM

I don’t understand…I’ve been golfing even while the Flyers were still playing! Not well…but I’m guessing that wasn’t your point. FORE!

    • hockey412 - May 1, 2014 at 9:07 AM

Eh, Phillyphanatic and flyerspsu are opinionated and passionate fans, but so am I (and you) and let’s face it, this is the place for that. Good people. beatdown is a bit of a psycho though, i agree.

Good season Flyers, glad to see it end when it did for a number of reasons. But, you got a goalie, and you’ve also got the ‘megna concussed our goalie’ fire to fan until fall. I’ll be interested to see if everyone can fit under the cap next year (I think they can, but might not be too many big moves for that defenseman that everyone seems to want).

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 1:50 PM

actually beatdown made me laugh last night..he was trying real hard to be smart and failed completely. ill give him credit for showing up though.

mason is a legitmate starter for them, but honestly that megna concussion play was really soft…he has a history of those and that could spell trouble. that was nothing more than a center drive play with a little goalie contact.

cap shouldnt be a problem. should go up about 6 million.

      • hockey412 - May 1, 2014 at 1:52 PM

I agree on the Megna hit….and beatdown does that every single time we ‘speak’.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 1:55 PM

i can see us beating the rangers. i think we match up well against them.

i gotta be honest though, not too sure about boston and montreal. montreal’s offense scares me. boston just plays so tight and they have rask. that aint no joke.

but…lets buckle down on this series and see what happens. i will say this…looking back, the islanders were nowhere near as good as CBJ and ottawa pretty much laid down for us. we are going to be much more tested IF we make it to the ECF again. that could be a good thing.

      • hockey412 - May 1, 2014 at 2:13 PM

        Yep – Go PENS!

    • coopjr - May 1, 2014 at 10:30 AM

  14. billiam55 - Apr 30, 2014 at 10:54 PM

from a NYR fan, it was a fun series between two teams with a great rivalry. Mason is a beast and flyer fans gotta be excited about that guy.

    • phillyphanatic77 - May 1, 2014 at 6:31 AM

Appreciate it. Flyers fans have been supporting Mason 100% this season and it’s nice to see opposing fans starting to realize he’s not the goalie he was in Columbus. He’s a legitimate #1. I wish we could’ve had him in games 1-3, but I still don’t think we would’ve come out on top. The Rangers are in the Flyers heads, obviously. Props to the NY for completely outplaying us.

As disappointing as it is to lose to a bitter rival I will be rooting for the Rangers (half-heartedly) to knock out the Pens. If the blueshirts play like they did in this series then they can do it. Good luck, see you next year.

  15. jkay1818 - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:02 PM

As a rangers fan and going to every game at msg this series, it’s insane Macdonald received 30MM. He is absolutely atrocious, he never stops a player from entering the zone, he’s a turnover machine and he’s easy to get off the puck. I thought islander fans I know were bitter but I don’t know what planet some flyer fans are on saying he’s a good add. All throughout the series I was getting texts how that’s the only good thing snow has done. Great series and extremely clean for two rivals

    • laxman1944 - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:11 PM

Good Luck………got a 9 O’clock at Saw Grass in the am.

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 1:53 PM

i hope not i would really hate to be envious of a flyers fan.

    • flyerspsu - May 1, 2014 at 1:27 AM

I HAVE BEEN SAYING HOW BAD HES BEEN SINCE DAY 1 … on knowledgeable Flyers fan sites like on Broadstreet Hockey on SBnation nearly everyone hates him and thinks hes awful, the people that actually think hes good are the people that think the fact that he leads the league in blocked shots means hes great when it really means he gets victimized every time hes on the ice and is stuck in his own zone unable to body people off and resorts to shot blocking

    • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 1:52 PM

the first thing you need to know is that the islanders didnt sign him to a stupid contract.

so the flyers did? wow. way to make yourself look worse than the worst GM in the league. holmgren isnt, but that contract puzzled me from day 1. actually, it puzzled me when people started talking about him as anything more than 4-6th defenseman.

  16. hockeyflow33 - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:12 PM

This comment section couldn’t handle a Pens/Flyers playoff series.

  17. pwstir - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:21 PM

The Flyers are a joke and will continue for decades to go nowhere. They only seem motivated to play the Penguins and outside of that they don’t have much else there. When you have a coach that is a thug and fans that constantly only know how to boo, complain, and be angry about everything how do you expect a team to rally around that. Philly is where hockey players go to die and try to make the best of usually their short tenure and get to a real city that knows how to stand behind your team and create winners. Thank God in my lifetime I won’t have to watch the cup being raised there! Phew…

    • c9castine - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:25 PM

crap organization. inconsistent, poorly managed, poorly coached, poorly led. idiot fans.

i hate boston too but atleast Chiarelli and company know what the hell they are doing up there.

      • flyboystransport - Apr 30, 2014 at 11:38 PM

Crap organization that has missed the playoffs just twice in the last 16 years? What’s your definition of good?

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 12:27 AM

      • flyerspsu - May 1, 2014 at 1:42 AM

        twice in 19 years*

The Flyers are top 3 in nearly every statistic since they joined the league, obviously cups isnt one of them since they have somehow lost their last 6 finals, but wins, playoff appearances, division titles, conference titles etc., to say it is a crap organization is ridiculous and misguided

        1974 – won the cup

        1975 – won the cup

        1976 – lost in finals

1980 – set the record for longest unbeaten streak that stands today but lost in a freaky series w/ fog, bats, luck and an offside OT goal to Islanders

1985 – lost in finals to Gretzky’s Oilers

1987 – lost in game 7 of the finals to Gretzky’s Oilers despite having many injuries

1990 – the Penguins 20+ years of being the laughing stock of the league pays off and they get guys like Lemiuex and Jagr w/ those top draft picks

1997 – Flyers lose in finals to the Red Wings

2000 – lost in game 7 of conference finals to the eventual cup winners New Jersey

2004 – lost in game 7 of conference finals to the eventual cup winners Tampa

2010 – lose in game overtime in the finals

      • c9castine - May 1, 2014 at 2:04 AM

thank you. now adversely apply that to the penguins and you see why your fans are just as ridiculous

      • bobhpine - May 1, 2014 at 8:12 AM

Not really sure what this FlyersPSU guy is doing…if you want to prove that the Flyers have consistently choked for the last 40 years and never win anything meaningful…I mean, we all agree.

Wait…no…I get it. He’s listing all of these losses and choke jobs because he thinks it’s actually an accomplishment. Just like the rest of the cretins that follow this team, this guy thinks conference finals appearances are badges of honor. Playoff appearances mater more than cups to you people, clearly….or at least that is what you tell yourselves.

In Pittsburgh, we count championships, and unless you’re almost 50 years old, you have zero recollection of ever seeing the Flyers win one. I’ve seen the Penguins win 3.

Have a nice offseason debating the merits of signing Andrew MacDonald and convincing yourself that Claude “I can’t even make the Olympic team in front of Patrick Marleau” Giroux is the best player in the world.

You sir, are an idiot. That has to be the dumbest thing I have read on PHT in a long time. A long time being several minutes and its usually something some Pittsburgh hog swallower has posted. Let me guess…Pens fan?

You seem like the type of person who thinks everybody deserves a participation trophy and thinks keeping score during games is bad for the players. New flash – most fans of every sport like to see their team give it their all for a win and when they under perform, they will be criticized for it. Right or wrong, they are in the spot light so they need to do well. When you see a Flyers team beat most of the top teams in the league, you see what they have the potential to do, but then you see how they performed this series vs. the Rangers and you have to ask, “what happened to my team???” Have to credit the Rangers for having a good game plan, but in the same breathe I will criticize Chief and the rest of his coaching staff for not figuring out a game plan for the Flyers. Going to be an interesting off season. GO FLYERS!!!

A power forward and a right handed dman and this team is a contender next season. With the draft being in philly I’m looking at a run at Bobby Ryan or bufglyuin and Evander Kane for the schenns

Yeah. That’s going to happen.I’m sure

why not? criticize them but they always go for the best players available.

        or unavailable for that matter.

wow some of you guys are pathetic, it was a great series between two good teams and was gonna be a fight the entire way, but instead of giving both teams credit some other teams fans diss the losing one really? you should grow up. for the flyers i wonder how different the series would of been if mason was healthy at the start, he played out of his mind, with ghost more than likely making the roster next year and morin in a year or tow and olli i thin the defense will be great, just need to add one or two more pieces, but i gotta give credit where credits due congrats to the rangers on a hard fought series.

irish lol… cmon… 7 games or not that was not a great series at all. it lacked just about ……everything playoff hockey is

Glad to see Flyers lose. Only regret is not seeing Pens have the opportunity to beat them. And of course will miss the trash talk that would have blown up this site.

    • hockey412 - May 1, 2014 at 9:12 AM

The trash talk will continue with every Pens loss. If the Pens sweep the entire playoffs, then it will be about something else. You have to love it.

I like the direction. Although, I am not happy with the ending, they have a nice young core, and I do not want Holmgren to blow up this team. With the draft being in Philly though, look for Holmgren to possibly make a splash. Timmonen, Grossman and Coburn are gone this offseason, I think. Gus will take one of those spots. They should have Streit, McDonald, Schenn and Gus, but they still have 2 more to fill. I am fine with their offense, even though they came up small in the Rangers series, and they are still young and developing. I think Couturier will develop some offense, Akeson looks solid and Laughton should be on the roster next year.

    • cantstandstupid - May 1, 2014 at 9:57 AM

Grossman and Coburn are signed until ’16-’17, do you think they are going to trade them? Not sure if they would get anything more than draft picks for them. Coburn looked terrible during the playoffs. Hartnell is the biggest eye sore on the team for me. His NTC is seriously irritating!!!

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia fans crack me up! You both act the same exact way and you try to call out the other side for being douche bags.

    • hockey412 - May 1, 2014 at 9:08 AM

Yep, it’s kind of our “thing”.

We all know that Football fans are much better, though.

      • footballfan - May 1, 2014 at 11:25 AM

To respond to your football comment…. When I picked this name out PHT didn’t exist. PFT was a small blog and was not even attached to NBC sports yet. Unlike others on these sites I don’t have several names and I’m not going to change the one I have.

      • hockey412 - May 1, 2014 at 12:27 PM

It wasn’t meant to be derogatory, I’m a football fan myself.

  23. cantstandstupid - May 1, 2014 at 9:53 AM

So what’s it going to take to get rid of Hartnell? He’s signed for 5 more years making 4.75M each year, but I don’t think I can stand looking at him after his “performance” this playoff series. Unfortunately he’s just an average player and I feel that the coaching staff thinks he’s a star on the rise. And how can you take him off the top line for under performing but still keep him on the top PP? If he sucks during 5 on 5 play, he’s going to suck with the man advantage. I thought it was great seeing Torts bench Brad Richards last year. Your job shouldn’t be safe just because you’re a “star” and they should be held accountable for under performing.

Going to be an interesting off season. Will we get to see Laughton with the big club next year or will he be stuck in the AHL? What are they going to do with Brayden Schenn? Akeson deserves to be resigned, but too bad he isn’t a little bigger.
