Rangers pull Lundqvist heading into third period

Apr 29, 2014, 9:38 PM EDT

The New York Rangers decided to change goalies in the third period of Game 6, pulling Henrik Lundqvist in favor of Cam Talbot.

It’s been a rough night for Lundqvist and the Rangers, as he allowed four goals on 23 shots. That being said, the logic behind the swap may revolve as much around Game 7 coming on Wednesday as it does the 32-year-old’s performance.

Plenty are bashing Lundqvist, yet there are those who believe it’s been a team (lack of) effort:

Either way, the Rangers eyeball a huge mountain to climb if they want to get back into this game. If not, Lundqvist is almost certain to be the starter tomorrow, so the Swedish star and his team would need to recover from this disappoint in little time.

(Again, assuming that the Flyers hold on.)

AV is a f*ing joke. he pulls lundqvist in this game, WHY didn’t he ever pull Luongo??? f*ing numbskull should have pulled Luongo multiple times in 2009, 2010, or 2011… might have made a difference and actually won something with that team…

Have there ever been three Game 7s on one day? I don’t remember this happening before.

The Flyers found a way to get past the five goalies tonight and this is not a surprising result.

The Rangers better find a quick way to rebuild that wall again if they plan on facing the Penguins.

    • mebailey700 - Apr 29, 2014 at 10:29 PM

I don’t know if thinking about the penguins is the best idea right now, they still have to win game 7 against the flyguys..

Just delaying the inevitable. No way Philly wins in New York tomorrow night.

    • idonthavethebloodyoucrave - Apr 29, 2014 at 10:15 PM

Not if the Flyers play like they did tonight. They found a way through the five goalies and just embarrassed Henry.

The Rangers better find their way back to keeping the Flyers offense to low percentage shots or they’re gonna lose.

This game was the biggest contrast in the series.

The Rags got dominated tonight. The only thing the Flyers showed is that when their back is against the wall they bring the thunder.

      • stakex - Apr 29, 2014 at 11:18 PM

Hard to say the Rangers were dominated tonight. They out shot and out chanced the Flyers…. and with all the egregious turn overs in the 1st period the Flyers were lucky it wasn’t 4-1 Rangers after 20 minutes. Which brings us to the one area where the Flyers did dominate tonight, and that was finishing. The Flyers scored when they had a chance, and the Rangers struggle to find the back of the net continued.

Make no mistake about it though, the overall play in this game was fairly even.

You guys were outworked and outplayed. I’ve been saying it all season long, this Flyers team shows up hard when its down to the wire. They were beating the rangers to the puck and winning the majority of the battles. I also been saying how poorly Hank has been playing. If the rags didn’t have all 5 players collapsing on goal and playing goalie it would be a totally different series.
That does not excuse how lazy and poorly the Flyers game has been the passed few contests.

Stakex I’m sorry but even the first when the Rangers had plenty of chances, it wasn’t a result of their play. The Flyers had numerous absurd turnovers that led directly to prime scoring chances. And the rags still couldn’t convert. This series has shown that getting outshot means nothing. In fact the team with more shots usually loses, bc they’ve been playing catchup while the other team defends a lead. That’s what happened tonight. The Flyers dominated then sat back and defended the lead in the 3rd.

Mason outplayed Lundqvist. The Flyers forwards outplayed the Rangers defense (a rare occurrence in this series). And special teams wasn’t even close. I will say the series has essentially been dominated by NY, but tonight was a game that was dominated by Philly.

stakex, “with all the egregious turn overs in the 1st period the Flyers were lucky it wasn’t 4-1 Rangers after 20 minutes”

That wasn’t luck. That was the Ranger hitting a wall named Mason. Luck was 2 bounces that landed on the stick of Simmonds, and Gusstafsson having a “look what I found” moment coming out of the penalty box.

Where is pump a$$ hockey412 with his expert analysis tonight? Oh yeah he’s having a circle jerk with piney bob, toilet clown, and whammy71.

smart move. gives him more rest i guess for tmrw. u had to expect the flyers to come out like this though. and it also helps when the rangers play like garbage. game 7 here we go

    • elmerbrownelmerbrown - Apr 29, 2014 at 10:30 PM

More rest ?????????????What like 20 min ahhahahahaahah

      • joey4id - Apr 30, 2014 at 8:38 AM

What’s your problem with sitting down on the bench for 45 mins as opposed to standing? If it would have been possible they would have sent him home immediately after the second period to maximize his resting time.

He needed the Advil last night because the Orange Rhino ran over his a$$. All kidding aside, Lundqvist has not played very well this series. Not sure if he has an nagging injury or just not as sharp as he was the past few years. Either way, it should be a great game 7.

      • elmerbrownelmerbrown - Apr 30, 2014 at 9:57 AM

After what we go through every year in the playoffs who gives a rats ass,,,, f’em !!!

  7. broadstreetbeatdown - Apr 29, 2014 at 10:23 PM

    Lundqvist is a effing joke.

    • joey4id - Apr 30, 2014 at 8:44 AM

don’t be too cocky. that being said I’m torn between the Rangers beating the Flyers because I selected NY to win, and the Flyers winning so we get to enjoy another battle of PA.
