Sharks’ Boyle: ‘Did we go out there and think we have three cracks at this?’

Apr 27, 2014, 2:10 AM EDT

San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle seemed to be at a boiling point in terms of frustration following his team’s 3-0 loss in Game 5 to the L.A. Kings.

Boyle got into a back-and-forth exchange with a reporter following the loss, unhappy about a question on whether the Sharks, previously leading 3-0 in the series, had played as if they thought they had three chances to put away the Kings.

“So, did we go out there and think we have three cracks at this? I can’t even believe that’s a question but no we did not,” said Boyle during his post-game scrum, which can be viewed in the video below.

For Christ’s sake, this is why reporters shouldn’t have the “right” to player access after games. Obnoxious, ignorant, stupid crap like this. I’m impressed Boyle didn’t punch that idiot after that “You’re the professional athlete” line. Snide, arrogant journalist just fishing for soundbytes. Utterly typical.

I think that the reporter was snide after Boyle was giving lip. He just wasn’t in the mood to answer questions, hence the “I get that you guys have to dissect this…” comment when he would preface how he didn’t want to talk about it. He wasn’t even in the mood to entertain the guy that was trying to cheer him up about how they had won at Staples before. Plus, in all fairness, it was McClellan that was saying that they couldn’t go into this game with the mindset that they had “4 cracks at this” so it’s really just referencing that.

Dude, you’re less than twenty minutes out of a brutal loss and five idiots who’ve never even laced up a pair of skates are thrusting microphones in your face asking stupid questions they genuinely think make sense because they don’t know dick all about hockey. How would you react to that? Not only is it a stunning waste of time, it’s literally intended to take advantage of the fact you’re still angry in the hopes of a soundbyte they can go and parade about for the next few days. “Oh, oh, look everyone! Dan Boyle said something controversial! Let’s all tweet and blog about it!” Like I said, I have no idea where players get their patience from.

Kings are gonna win this series. They’re clicking. This team has stared down adversity time and time again and triumphs.

Well technically Boyle and Sharks have 4 Cracks at it!

    • pens87 - Apr 27, 2014 at 11:42 AM

well “had” four cracks at it. But since they had already lost a game before last night, the three was correct.

Nice to see the kings fans coming out of the woodwork with this optimism. “Sharks are done” yeah I’m sure you clowns said the same about your beloved team after games one and two. Heck even game three. Every series between the two have ended in LA and that’s exactly what’s gonna happen in game 6. Grab your bulbs and book your tee times LA.

Man you better be right after game 6 otherwise there’s gonna be a lot of us scared Sharks fans…

    • cybernetikghost - Apr 27, 2014 at 5:29 PM

If we book the tee time for 2 weeks from now, it can be a kings-sharks rematch

A simple “No Way” would have been sufficient Dan.

I think it’s human nature to “know” you have a cushion…..

That’s why we talk about teams “playing desperate” when they are ONE game from elimination.

The Sharks are NOT one game from elimination so if they lose a game their season does not “END”.

I’t’s Impossible or VERY unlikely to have same level of desperation of a team that faces the END”..

Only in a game 7 where both teams can face the “END” can you truly have ZERO complacency.

For now even if the Sharks (or any team for that matter) will not admit it….

Boyle and the Sharks are aware that even if they were to lose Game 6….

The season does not END and they have a home game 7.

    It’s just a fact.

As for the Kings….they face are faced with the “END” on Monday night.

    Not the Sharks.
