‘We’re going into the cage,’ says Kings’ coach Sutter about Game 5

The L.A. Kings showed some resolve Thursday night, staving off elimination and a sweep in their first-round series against the rival San Jose Sharks.

Now comes another must-win for the 2012 Stanley Cup champions, and that will be in Game 5 on Saturday night back in San Jose. After an emotional 6-3 victory in Game 4 – those emotions boiled over at the end – the thought of going into the unfriendly confines of the SAP Center to try and extend the series seems to suit the Kings just fine.

“We’re going into the cage. Cages are a good thing,” said Kings’ head coach Darryl Sutter afterward, as per LA Kings Insider.

Oh, there’s some fodder for the days ahead.

It’s still a dire situation to be in, which is exactly how captain Dustin Brown described being down 3-0 in the series prior to puck drop on Thursday.

The Sharks are probably feeling the desperation to now close this bruising series out, not let it go any further than necessary.

“We came down here and did what we were supposed to do,” said Joe Thornton, as per the San Jose Mercury News. “Now we’ve got to go home and do our job.”

may the most determined team win.

    Cliche answer from Thorton.

Hope Sharks have to make a trip to LA for game 6!

What else was he supposed to say, how was it cliche anyway? Jumbos always a good interview, I.e stroking cocks

      • ethanmacleod1685 - Apr 25, 2014 at 3:29 AM

And he’s right, the Sharks weren’t supposed to sweep LA but they will definetly finish them back at the tank imo

It was also kinda weak that he did not give Kings any credit for win and rather emphasized on how they (the Kings) got all the bounces.

again. would love to see him give another similar interview about how Sharks deserved better and Kings won because of “bounces”

Cliche answer to what surely was a cliche question. Sports interviews are probably the most predictable things in the entertainment industry.

Pierre: ” How are you gonna stop (insert opposing star player name here) tonight?”

Interviewee: Ahhhh we just gotta take away his time and space, be hard on the puck and spend all our time in the offensive zone.

Pierre: OK! Go out and have fun tonight.

      Interviewee: Ahhh OK, thanks Pierre.

Sutter’s just trying to stoke up the heat and make the Sharks feel like they need to expect the physical game. He’s hoping we’ll go overboard and take penalties. Sorry Darryl but I don’t think that’s gonna happen – to many veterans here. I can see the tone notching up, but it’ll be two way – the boys in teal will push back the proper amount. If anything the desperation of the kings will be their downfall as they get out of sync trying to match our speed! While I picked the Sharks in 7 in my pool, I’d have no problem with it being in 5!

    sharks in 5.

    Cage. Tank.

You say tomatoes, I say tomahtoes. It’s a semantics. Gotta love Sutter.

    GKG!!!

      crap! *It’s all semantics.

Whether its Sharks or Kings or another team.

I would have wanted my player to say something along the lines that.

“Hey we blew it tonight! We potted 17 in 3 games and could end it. Should have finished and not given opponent any hope”

Im a Kings fan and was bothered by to “mumbling” “no news answers” given by Brown and Quick after game 3!

I know nobody likes to talk after a loss….

But if your a “pro” making millions you should do better than “mumble” and give clihce answers.

If Thorton’s good interview. So be it.

Hope “Jumbo” gets to talk to the media after game 6.

I’m not crazy enough to think the kings are going to win 4 straight, including 2 in San Jose. But I think the sharks have a problem going forward. It’s their goaltending. The next two rounds will be against teams with a whole lot more offensive fire power than the Kings.

“Anti-shark cage. You go inside the cage? Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark’s in the water. Our shark… ‘Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain….’”

    • patthehockeyfan - Apr 25, 2014 at 12:53 PM

That’s hilarious! How long have you been waiting for the opportunity to write that? (P.S. Glad Sutter could oblige you with the ‘cage’ remark.)

Gotta love Sutter. Looking forward to the handshakes after Saturdays game. What’s Quick’s GAA at the cage?

    Go Sharks!!!
