Video: Dubinsky’s tying goal draws heat on Fleury

Apr 23, 2014, 10:00 PM EST

Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has often been a lightning rod for criticism, especially since he’s had some low moments in the playoffs. Wednesday won’t exactly help matters for the one-time Stanley Cup champion.

Many are criticizing Fleury for playing the puck late in Game 4 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, opening up room for chaos to ensue and Brandon Dubinsky to pounce on the opportunity:

This constitutes another blown lead in this series, as the Penguins saw a 3-0 lead melt away into a 3-3 tie to produce an overtime nail-biter currently on NBCSN.

Again, many critiqued “The Flower.”

Then again, some think that it’s too easy just to pick on him:

Either way, the Penguins are a goal away from either being up 3-1 or 2-2 in this exciting series.

Not the best decision but the puck clear took a weird bounce off the boards and then more weird rolls on the ice.

    • 7mantel - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:07 PM

When will he learn he is not a good stick handler ! Leave it for the defensemen .

      • hockeyflow33 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:09 PM

There’s no stick handling involved, he’s out there to stop the puck and leave it for his defenseman

      • 7mantel - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:15 PM

He never touched the puck, it went under his stick ,because he not good handling his stick.

      • richter35lundqvist30 - Apr 24, 2014 at 9:55 AM

        Bounced over his stick

    • stakex - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:33 PM

The puck might have taken a bad bounce, but that doesn’t get him off the hook. Everyone knows the ice conditions deteriorates late in the period/game, and goalies are generally told to stay in the net at that point for this very reason. If he doesn’t make the choice to leave the net, he bad bounce can’t happen…. as such, its still on him.

      • hockeyflow33 - Apr 23, 2014 at 11:59 PM

Well that’s not factually correct because the puck will still take the same horrid bounce as Fleury never touched the puck.

    This is some funny s**t.

    Go Columbus

  4. bsfan77 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:05 PM

Way to go Fleury! Blow the game with 20 seconds left and then let a shot in that my son could have stopped in the driveway! Lmao! Gooooooooooo Jackets! Malkin, no show. Crosby, no show. Get the golf clubs ready!

  5. drewsylvania - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:06 PM

MAF: The Tony Romo of the NHL.

    • bullwinkle88 - Apr 24, 2014 at 2:35 AM

      Who is Tony Romo???

  6. ironmd778 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:06 PM

Way to play that puck with one hand on the stick like it’s the 2nd period of a pre-season game. LOL!!

  7. chanceoffleury - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:07 PM

Blame who you will, but Fleury did save 39 shots up to that point. The defense needs to tighten up and take away the options as much as Fleury needs to stay in his net.

    • bsfan77 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:14 PM

Who cares if he had 200 saves. He and only he lost the game for the Pens. He had 3 of his own players there and tried to be the hero and play the puck. Pitt needs a Tuukka!

  8. feedmetherock - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:08 PM

Fleury was 22 seconds from stealing game 4 and then that happened. Pens have such a horrible tendency to stub their own foot. CBJ had all the momentum from the second period on. The final 10 minutes of the 3rd the Pens seemed to neutralize the CBJ offense.

Also, when will the captain come under some scrutiny? For all the points he put up in the regular season, he doesn’t seem to be that much of a factor.

  9. bsfan77 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:08 PM

Fleury’s melt down is right on time. Playoffs and the Flower dont mix. Shero should have grabbed a goalie at the deadline! That loss is all on him. No one else to blame!

    • feedmetherock - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:10 PM

Oh yeah? All on Fleury? Not the fact that the team sleep walked through the second and most of the third?? Fleury kept them in as long as he could. The Pens had no business even being in the lead in the 3rd with how awful they were playing.

      • bsfan77 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:20 PM

Why are you playing the puck with 3 of your own players there? Then a wrist shot unscreened from the point. Penns are not going deep with the way they are playing. I would be taking that C off Cindy’s shirt because a leader he is not! Blame it on that moron Toiletclown that posts here saying the Penns would win 4-1

    • chanceoffleury - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:16 PM

Maybe the defense that forced Fleury to face 41 shots and let the Jackets completely control the pace of the game after the first 15 minutes? We shouldn’t point any fingers at them?

  10. sabatimus - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:09 PM

    Never mind the tying goal…HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHA

  11. macgrubie - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:10 PM

gonna go out on a limb that the OT goal will draw more heat

  12. penguins87and71 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:12 PM

First of all Fleury didn’t lose this game, yes he let in the game tying goal, but the Penguins had a chance to win it in OT, and they didn’t. Defense is terrible, they can’t even hold a 3 goal lead. Wheres Crosby and Malkin the “two best players in the NHL”.

  13. johnnyd76 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:14 PM

I’ve been a MAF apologist for years, always giving him the benefit of the doubt – no more! He somehow managed to snatch Defeat from the jaws of Victory tonight – and, I just knew CBJ would score in the first 5 minutes of OT. Why would you leave the net when your defenseman had carried the play for the last 10 minutes? So be it – the PENS are down but not out. However, I think Bylsma has to seriously consider which netminder to put in goal for game 5. I will say this – if MAF can not carry this series, he will no longer be a Penguin. Come on PENS – you are better than this! CONGRATS to CBJ on a hard fought win.

    • bullwinkle88 - Apr 24, 2014 at 2:37 AM

If the Penguins lose this series, say goodbye to Bylsma AND Fleury.

  14. pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:14 PM

Why!!! Why would he leave the net!!! Fleury blew this one I’m sorry. That game winner was a softy. He played well all series long until the last minute of this game.

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Apr 23, 2014 at 11:34 PM

Why? Because he’s Beach Ball Fleury…Playoff basket case specialist.

  15. penguins87and71 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:16 PM

Nice job Penguins, chocking as usual. Unbelievable.

    • barkar942 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:49 PM

Chocking? Is that supposed to be choking or shocking?

      • pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 23, 2014 at 11:50 PM

        Lol

  16. bsfan77 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:24 PM

Penns have the worst fair weather fans I have ever seen! Way to stand behind your team! Unbelievable!

Since when does “many” constitute two Twitter posts? Typical crowd-drawing garbage headline from these stories.
