Video: Carcillo scores, gives it to Flyers fans

Apr 22, 2014, 10:53 PM EDT

The Carbomb exploded late on Tuesday night.

Shortly after his hooking penalty expired midway through the third period of an eventual 4-1 win, Rangers forward Dan “Carbomb” Carcillo took a Brian Boyle feed and scored his first playoff goal in three years — then celebrated in style:

The goal was likely sweet for Carcillo, who played in Philly for three seasons and scored his last playoff goal for the Flyers during the ’11 postseason. It also had to be sweet given 1) Carcillo was making his postseason debut for the Rangers, 2) he made amends for the aforementioned hooking penalty, and 3) scored an insurance marker following this clip from Philly’s Matt Read just a few minutes prior:

As mentioned, the Rangers finished with a 4-1 victory and took a 2-1 series lead as a result. Game 4 goes Friday at Wells Fargo — think Carcillo dresses again?

Update: Not surprisingly, Carcillo had a few things to say in his postgame media availability…

That “hooking” call was a joke. He made a textbook stick lift and puck clear. A great play. If anybody needs to make amends for that penalty it’s the ref who called it. And I hate both these teams passionately.

    • rangerbob77 - Apr 23, 2014 at 12:54 AM

Bullshiit call worse then the embellishment call Sunday if that is possible goal was karmic justice …respect your passion LETSGORANGERS!!!!!

  2. sjsharks66 - Apr 22, 2014 at 10:56 PM

After the elbow he received the the head, you can’t help but cheer for this goal.

  3. lowenni - Apr 22, 2014 at 10:57 PM

Not a fan of his. Not a classy move at all.

    • lowenni - Apr 22, 2014 at 10:58 PM

That hit by Read though was definitely questionable.

      • ematusko - Apr 23, 2014 at 9:50 AM

It was questionable for sure, but since it’s Carcillo, who might be one of the dirtiest players in the league, nobody outside of New York cares.

    • sticks169 - Apr 23, 2014 at 12:04 AM

After the shoulder to the head from Read, the bs call on him, and the cheering when he was down, it was like a dagger in the fans heart and he was twisting it!

  4. claudegirwho - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:02 PM

    Best celebration I’ve ever seen

  5. sjsharks66 - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:03 PM

I meant to say shoulder to the head. My bad.. So used to writing elbow to the head recently.

  6. Stiller43 - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:05 PM

I hate him, but that was hilarious.

    • ironyisadeadscene - Apr 23, 2014 at 6:48 AM

My sentiment exactly…..gotta love it…simple and yet spoke volumes

  7. billiam55 - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:07 PM

CELLY OF THE YEAR. The hockey gods were with carcillo after a BS call.

  8. pitpenguinsrulez - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:16 PM

    You stay classy Philly.

    • gregman98 - Apr 23, 2014 at 6:59 AM

Especially the class displayed by that middle-fingers-waving Failers fan. Typical.

      • ibieiniid - Apr 23, 2014 at 9:00 AM

GASP! A middle finger! I’m sure nobody in your city has even given the finger. Philly, so classless.

      • ibieiniid - Apr 23, 2014 at 9:00 AM

seriously, who the f are these pussies and how were they ever turned on to the game of hockey?

    • ematusko - Apr 23, 2014 at 9:51 AM

It wasn’t too classy, but neither were the droves of NY fans making racial slurs at Wayne Simmonds on Twitter. Let’s just ignore that part though.

      • matt14gg - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:32 AM

Such nonsense. You want to take ignorant comments from 0.0000000000001 percent of the population an put it on “NY fans”. It’s complete crap, but it somehow makes you feel superior. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with FANS anywhere and you have no idea where those comments are coming from. They are usually from baiters who want a reaction. I’m not even from NY, and not at all a fan of any NY teams, but it’s weak and gutless (and dishonest) to put that crap on any fanbase. Get a life you jerk.

  9. joey4id - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:24 PM

    classless, but priceless celebration….. :-)

    • sausey22 - Apr 23, 2014 at 11:03 AM

classless would have been flipping them off right back. I like what he did. Simple, smug, and to the point.

  10. drewzducks - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:41 PM

Was that Ference in the stands?

    • r8rbhawk - Apr 23, 2014 at 2:51 AM

pretty sure it was, he has plenty of time to watch playoff games now that he plays for Edmonton.

    • joey4id - Apr 23, 2014 at 8:02 AM

      drewzducks = troll

Troll: a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

      • thailer35 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:41 AM

My head just exploded because of the irony.

      • joey4id - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:43 AM

Lol! Someone was bound to see it….

  11. johnstone17 - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:43 PM

…………………….And he got a warning for almost beheading the Ref. A little over the top, but I get it.

  12. heynyc61 - Apr 22, 2014 at 11:47 PM

Philly fans are loyal but they are a bunch of animals…. Make NY and Boston look like choir boys

    • etjla - Apr 23, 2014 at 8:08 AM

      You are insulting animals.

  13. miketoasty - Apr 23, 2014 at 12:04 AM

Wow MacDonald got completely smoked by a 3rd/4th liner. Good thing Philly threw all that money at him…

It’s not like the game was over at that point, they’re down by two but if there is anything these Playoffs have taught us it’s that a two goal lead means nothing. MacD looked like he gave up on the play the second Carcillo got behind him.

As for the Philly crowd, typical Philly. Nothing really too shocking about this.

  14. luvusa1 - Apr 23, 2014 at 1:45 AM

Not classy by Philly fan – but Carcillo acted like the typical dochebag antagonizing the fans. So, shut up Pensrules – jerk.

  15. cheesesteak75 - Apr 23, 2014 at 2:08 AM

Carrillo got the last laugh and it made the game more entertaining.

  16. barkar942 - Apr 23, 2014 at 2:50 AM

Dear Philly fan with the Giroux jersey, Carcillo’s number is 13, not 11.

  17. har21441 - Apr 23, 2014 at 6:25 AM

    LOL Giroux

  18. wicky888 - Apr 23, 2014 at 7:00 AM

I’m a Flyers fan and I live right outside Philly. All I can say about that is ……. if Dan Carcillo is making comments about “the way people act”, maybe its time to take a step back and reflect

    • hockey412 - Apr 23, 2014 at 8:35 AM

(I thought this was hilarious but I have to admit I was thinking the same thing…)

  19. rpiotr01 - Apr 23, 2014 at 8:07 AM

I’m a Ranger fan but I still don’t like Carcillo. To his credit he’s behaved himself pretty well while with the Rangers.

I expect Matt Read to be a little lighter in the wallet for that drive by cheap shot.

    • sausey22 - Apr 23, 2014 at 11:07 AM

Wouldn’t be surprised if AV gave him a preemptive warning

  20. bkg63 - Apr 23, 2014 at 10:04 AM

Switched back and forth between the game and the movie Animal House…couldn’t tell the behavior apart…

  21. macgrubie - Apr 23, 2014 at 9:57 PM

Gotta say, being called classless and told im a bad person makes me confident i’m surrounded by better people than the people on this message board (and the press stoking those flames)… guess that’s what they say about those pointing fingers.
