Video: Stastny scores late to send Avalanche-Wild to OT

Apr 18, 2014, 12:41 AM EDT

The Minnesota Wild were just seconds away from taking Game 1 over the Colorado Avalanche, but that was until Paul Stastny scored with 14 seconds remaining in the third period to send the game to overtime.

The Avalanche played almost three of the final minutes of regulation with goalie Semyon Varlamov on the bench in favor of the extra attacker. Coach Patrick Roy certainly didn’t sit back.

The Avalanche trailed the Wild 4-2 going into the third period.

Anyone else surprised the two hundred million dollar fails were on the ice when the game tying goal was scored?

    I wasn’t.

Um, that’s one hundred and ninety-six million to you mister I don’t have a team in the playoffs.

These announcers need to calm down. You sent game 1 into OT, it’s not game 7 of the finals. All the naysayers, yeah, one game will shut everyone up. Give me a break. Good win, exciting game, but let’s pump the brakes.

How dare they get excited when a dramatic late goal is scored?

Did you consider that the Avs haven’t been a decent team in years….

But yeah, game 7 is only time when it is appropriate to get excited, ALL other games are boring.

Clearly you’re not familiar with Mike Haynes and Peter McNabb. Haynes started out doing Avalanche radio broadcasts in 1995. McNabb has been doing Avs games on TV since ’95 as well. Game 1 or not, that was a crazy comeback, they would have been that excited halfway through the season. Even as an Avs fan I can tell you they’re both major homers. McNabbs old announcing buddy John Kelly almost threw blows with Herb Brooks for defending an Avs player whom delivered a questionable hit on one of Brooks’ players. Always fun watching/listening to them, wouldn’t want any other guys.

They work for Altitude, who is owned by… Kroenke! They’re homers as per the job description and it really annoys me. But off the record Haynes and McNab are pretty objective guys. Listening to Canadian announcers is much more enjoyable unfortunately.
