Video: PHT Extra — can Detroit exploit Boston’s blueline?

Apr 18, 2014, 10:45 AM EST

The last of the eight first-round series gets underway tonight when the B’s host the Red Wings at TD Garden, so Brough and I started there in the latest edition of PHT Extra. We also touched on what to expect in Game 2 of the Lightning-Habs series, and what Dallas needs to do after dropping Game 1 of its series against Anaheim.

They’ve got a lot of speed and skill. If Zetterberg is back, don’t count them out. Obviously Boston has a great D-corps and defensive system, but it’s not the fastest blueline. As we saw with Chicago that can be exploited, much like the Sharks exploited the slow Robyn Regehr on the Kings blueline last night. Rask could easily steal this series, but I expect it’ll be a lot closer than some people expect.

I expect the Bruins in 6 where every game is a one goal game.

    Detroit in 6.

We will soon find out. Enough analysis. The boys will decide on ice. Let the games begin!!!

    Yes!

Bruins d will have their hands full with the speedy Wings’ forwards skating circles around them. This is not going to be an easy series for the Bs. The only player that can be the Wings will be their goalie.

That’s a serious inferiority complex he’s dealing with.

Me? Why would you say that? Is it because you are jealous of my superior knowledge of the game? ;-) Our friend Don Cherry constantly plays clips of himself to show his predictions were accurate. What’s wrong with that? Hahahahaha!

You be gone! You’re an insect to be squashed underfoot.

    Possibly.

But, this is the playoffs, not the regular season.

The rink tends to ‘shorten’ and the games get tighter. Just like in the NBA and NFL (remember that high flying Broncos offense that spread things all over the field? See how tight those spaces were in the Super Bowl?).

Seattle demolished Denver in the pre-season. I thought it would be tighter in the Super Bowl, but Denver never had the personnel to beat Seattle.

I’ve never heard of the rink getting shorter. But the time and space certainly disappears.

Not equating the B’s D with the Seahawks, but, they are pretty darn good. Witness two finals appearances in three years.

And, anyone who has watched Playoff hockey can attest that they are played with a lot more intensity than a Mid-November matinee game.
