Video: Perry spears Benn, Daley roughs up Perry as Stars-Ducks gets nasty

Apr 18, 2014, 11:14 PM EST

We’ve got ourselves a series.

That was the major development from the first period of Dallas-Anaheim Game 2, as the teams showed major dislike for one another in an opening frame that featured 10 penalty minutes, 31 hits and plenty of angst.

Things kicked off at the 7:25 mark when Corey Perry was given a “slashing” penalty for this spear on Dallas captain Jamie Benn:

Dallas would capitalize on the ensuing power play, with Alex Chiasson scoring his first-ever playoff goal…but the Stars’ revenge wasn’t done there.

At the 14:47 mark, Trevor Daley received a roughing minor after mugging Perry in the crease following a save from Kari Lehtonen:

This time, it was the Ducks exacting revenge as captain Ryan Getzlafstitched-up face and all — scored on the power play to even things up at one.

Stay tuned…still two periods to go.

What do you expect? It is Perry after all..

benn’s been desreving it since he wasn’t suspended for his cheap shot on Matt Cooke earlier this year.

        or penalized

Is a cheap shot on matt cooke really even a cheap shot?

Him and Lucic both deserve something. Both should get a game.

Should, but we all know they won’t.

    • kendog1 - Apr 19, 2014 at 12:48 AM

If they don’t, it makes the league look like kind of a joke, don’t you think?Baseball wouldn’t tolerate it and neither would the NFL, so what’s up NHL? Can you punish these gutless morons so we can get back to the great sport of hockey?

      • scottybcboy - Apr 19, 2014 at 12:57 AM

Baseball also doesn’t tolerate a player hitting another with the bat across the shins.
You cannot compare sports! The NHL is no joke, don’t like it, stop watching.

While I’m not sure what I think the supplementary discipline should be on these spears, I definitely think they should have been tossed from tonights games.

  3. 1943mrmojorisin1971 - Apr 18, 2014 at 11:43 PM

Then Perry pots one….Public Enemy #1 in Dallas.

The worst part of this game are the two awful commentators. The between the glass guy makes Pierre seem competent. NBCSN needs to pick up someone with more hockey knowledge than him. You know like an Anaheim ice girl

    • sjsharks66 - Apr 19, 2014 at 12:44 AM

My favorite was when they said “This is the plus of having HOME COURT advantage” I couldn’t believe my ears.

  5. scottybcboy - Apr 19, 2014 at 12:25 AM

Daley punched him 4 or 5 times while Perry’s head was on the ice. Where is the outrage from all of you who thought Shawn Thornton was a criminal? Does the slew foot really change it from good hard hockey to demanding a life time ban? Really not trolling, it is a legit question.

  6. kendog1 - Apr 19, 2014 at 12:41 AM

Yeesh! Enough with these dirty, gutless players spearing other players in the groin! Truly a black eye for the league and yet it does nothing! Do you think I want my kids watching that? And the announcer is praising him in the clip!!! Does anyone not think it makes the league look bad? I’m embarrassed to be a hockey fan.

So stop watching. You won’t be missed.
