Video: Lucic spears DeKeyser from behind

Apr 18, 2014, 10:27 PM EDT

The Boston Bruins wanted to play a physical game against Detroit, but this probably isn’t what they had in mind.

While 24-year-old rookie defenseman Danny DeKeyser was looking the other way, Boston’s Milan Lucic speared him at the end of the second period.

There was no penalty on the play, but Lucic might still get punished for this one. You can see the incident below:

This isn’t the first time Lucic has allegedly delivered this kind of hit. He was accused of doing something similar to Montreal’s Alexei Emelin last month:

It’s worth adding that Lucic, who was mad about a hip check Emelin delivered earlier, flatly denied the spearing.

“Just skating by him and that’s all,” Lucic said, per the Hockey News. “People are trying to say I speared him. I did not spear him, so that’s it.”

    Wonder how many Boston sportswriters will be apologists. “That’s playoff hockey.” It’s a disgusting and suspend-able offense.

      There’s the article you’ve been waiting for. (if it was linked below, sorry, but I saw this as first comment and just got done reading the article I linked)

    He didn’t spear him, he slapped him in the nuts. It happens all the time on both sides of the ice. He will get fined and the games will continue. Go chase your glowing puck.

      Um this doesn’t happen all the time. I’d bet anything that if James Neal nut-shotted Bergeron, you’d be screaming your face off about it. This does NOT happen all the time, and should be punished so severely that no one ever considers doing it again. There’s a line even in terms of dirty hits that you don’t cross, and Lucic repeatedly crosses it.

        Lucic sure does seem to do it all the time so i’m not surprised B’s fans think it’s a common occurrence. And yeah, if it was Neal they’d be screaming from the heavens about how dirty it is.

    Lucic = lowlife scum

    I have never complained about other teams dirty play. You have to be blind to believe this isn’t a common occurrence or you are one of the new generation of hockey fan that needs a glowing puck to follow the game.

      The Bruins a dirty team? Say it ain’t so with your fingers uncrossed!

    • tridecagon - Apr 22, 2014 at 10:02 AM

      The only people who believe this is “common” are fans of Milan Lucic’s teams. There are only a handful of players in the league who think this is okay.
