Getzlaf to play Game 2, looks awful

Apr 18, 2014, 10:49 AM EDT

Getzlaf

That gruesome image courtesy Chris Getzlaf, the football-playing brother of Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf.

The hockey-playing brother looks like that after he took a puck in the face Wednesday versus Dallas.

Despite the deep facial laceration (technical term for “huge cut on his face”), he’s expected to play tonight’s Game 2, as X-rays were negative.

“Luckily he’s married,” Ducks d-man Ben Lovejoy joked. “He’s got a couple of kids. He’s not trying to impress anybody with his face.”

Anaheim leads the series 1-0 after winning Game 1 by a score of 4-3.

    That’s hockey.

If that was Crosby, he would be out for the season.

You a hole… Just trolling today?

too bad we don’t have an example to compare it to…oh wait. Crosby had his jaw broken on a puck to the face and came back a little over a month later…

And Tyler Seguin would be suspended. “The head was the main point of contact.”- NHL

Only if his jaw was crushed and his teeth knocked out. Just a bad cut? Sid doesn’t miss a damn thing other than some Neosporin.

And this is why Hockey players are men as opposed to basketball players who leave a game because of a period cramp.

You have to think that if you’re a kid, you see your dad looking like that, and you fall off your bike, you’re not making a whimper.

The NHL is going to need to exploit this as part of their defense in the 3 concussion lawsuits they are up against.

    Andrew Shaw is not impressed.

That’s a hockey player right there. You wouldn’t see a player in any other sport play after something like that.

    • handsofsweed - Apr 18, 2014 at 2:06 PM

Ronnie Lott, Jack Youngblood and the rest of the Pro Football Hall of Fame would like to have a word with you. So would the entire Aussie Football League and every Rugby player on Earth.

Hockey is a tough M-effing sport. It doesn’t need your silly and bull$hit hyperbole.

      • elvispocomo - Apr 18, 2014 at 3:11 PM

No kidding. Kris Letang had a stroke and stopped playing until healthy. Piri Weepu had the same thing and played 3 more rugby games.

Hockey’s tough for sure, but it ain’t the only sport out there.

Unrelated, but I’m not sure why Getzlaf doesn’t just shave is head.

He has the hairline of a man twice his age.

A pretty boy he is not but a helluva hockey player though.

Funny to see Ben Lovejoy quoted in the story. He took a puck to the face during NHL 24/7 and his face blow up on the plane ride home.

Football players ain’t what they used to be but Ronnie Lott had an option to have surgery on a finger & miss 3 weeks or amputate it & miss 1. Any guesses what he chose?
