Video: Devils’ Elias shaken up by hit

Apr 4, 2014, 8:02 PM EDT

Big Washington Capitals winger Tom Wilson caught New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias with a hit that sent the veteran’s head into a (thankfully padded) turnbuckle/stanchion/area along the boards on Friday:

Elias was able to skate off with some help and hasn’t returned to the game yet.

There’s no official word regarding the 37-year-old’s condition as of this time. There wasn’t a penalty on the play, as it seemed like a hit that ended up happening in an unfortunate spot.

I hate to say it but “padding” isn’t going to do much to protect your brain rattling around in your skull from a hit like that..

Did he actually refer to that as a “turnbuckle”??
    LOL!
Too much WWE for Mr. O’Brien!

Clearly he will be labeled a talentless goon as Chara got, or is it okay because Wilson does not play for Boston?

Side Note: Why the hell is the part of the boards open anyway? Is it so Pierre Mcguire can sit there and tell us who grew up where and how so-and-so’s coach in peewee really liked said player’s mom’s chili she used to bring to practice for after the game?

Hold on I’m on the phone with NJ state police…
