Iginla misses first game to injury in seven years

Apr 2, 2014, 8:08 PM EST

Bruins leading scorer Jarome Iginla will miss his first game of the year and first to injury in seven years tonight against Detroit with a lower-body ailment.

Iginla, 36, was a late scratch announced just prior to puck drop. He leads the B’s in goals this year, with 30, and is second on the team with 61 points. He recently became just the 19th player in NHL history to score 30 goals or more at the age of 36-plus, and tied Guy LaFleur for 24th all-time on the NHL goals leaderboard, with 560.

Given the B’s officially ruled Iginla out with an injury…

… it marks the first time since 2007 he’s missed a game to to an ailment:

He floated his last 3 seasons as a Flame. Plenty of fans in Calgary were glad to see him gone.

If Iginla is nursing any kind of injury I’m all on board for leaving him with Chara in Boston while the Bruins go to Minnesota and freakin’ Winnipeg. No reason to make those guys make the trip at this point.

The point is making Chara and Iginla travel to Minnesota and Winnipeg is pointless. There’s no reason to add more work for them, the east is locked up. It’s time for them to rest guys.

where is joey4id at when you need him?? i wanna have a big long stupid argument with him about why a player is sitting out like he did to me with Malkin.

especially since he specifically used Boston as an example of a team who wasnt sitting guys at the end of the year because they were banged up. oops.
