Video: How many games do the Caps need to win?

Apr 1, 2014, 1:24 PM EST

The Washington Capitals may only be one point back of Columbus for the final wild-card spot in the East, but with the Blue Jackets holding a game in hand as well as the tie-breaker (regulation/overtime wins), the margin for error is a thin one.

The Caps have seven games left, starting tonight versus Dallas, another team in a desperate race to make the playoffs.

It’s estimated Washington will need to go in the neighborhood of 5-2-0 to avoid missing the postseason for the first time since 2007.

Personally, I would like them to go 2-5 so that they miss the postseason and some changes would finally be made!

They need at a minimum 12 pts to have a shot at making the playoffs, which is near impossible considering how they have been playing. Winning the remaining games will give them a pass into a wild card spot.

Their destiny is no longer in their hands because they have to depend on other teams losing. Not a place you want to be when you’re in March. Games are much tighter now than they were in say Oct, Nov or Dec. It’s not the same game , and when you’re struggling to find yourself as the Caps are in March you’re likely to miss the playoffs.

It can be even tougher in April, which will be here roughly 15 hours … ago.

😊 Point being that they were in that spot when the schedule rolled into March.
