Video: Devils’ Zajac records first career hat trick

Mar 31, 2014, 10:10 PM EDT

Travis Zajac had the hot stick for the New Jersey Devils on Monday.

The veteran center scored three times – his first career hat trick – and added an assist for a four-point night against the Florida Panthers, and the Devils recorded a 6-3 victory to get within three points of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

While Zajac enjoyed a career night, Devils goalie Martin Brodeur was pulled in the second period after allowing three goals on nine shots. Cory Schneider came in, stopping all 13 shots he faced.

As the highest paid Devil on the roster — it’s about time you showed up this year! We sure haven’t seen 5.5 million of production out of you this season — if you could score like this more often, maybe we wouldn’t be chasing Columbus for an 8 seed!

Zajac isn’t paid to put up big offensive numbers, he’s an elite-level defensive forward good for around 50-60 points a year – the entire teams offense has been anemic..

Typical of a DeBoer coached unit. Put up great numbers after it’s too late.

Brodeur was yanked but still got credit for the win. OK.
