Video: Bryzgalov brings Wild fan to tears by giving away his goalie stick

Mar 27, 2014, 12:31 AM EDT

Wednesday wasn’t a great night for Minnesota Wild goalies Ilya Bryzgalov and Darcy Kuemper, as they both struggled in a 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks. That doesn’t mean it was a night without its positive moments, especially when Bryzgalov delighted a fan by giving her his goalie stick:

That was the most heartwarming moment of stick use in the game, but Alexander Edler provided the other unusual bit of stick use by saving a goal:

Good job Bryz. You will be her favorite player!

gimme ur stick brizzy, and you’ll be my favorite player too (sounds wrong in so many ways XD_

Big deal, this team is routinely bringing all of its fans to tears.

The only thing “unusual” about Edler’s stick work there is that players are usually a split second too late to make the stop.

Edler is a -29. It’s unusual he’s not fishing the puck out of the back of the net.

Say what you will about Bryz- and there’s been plenty to say over the years- but that was a classy thing he did tonight. If that kid wasn’t a hockey fan to begin with, she’s a fan for life now. We hear so often how players had their own favorite players growing up… makes you wonder how many kids getting a stick handed to them, a puck tossed up to them, etc. will be telling that story on draft day in ten, fifteen years.

That first line you posted was pretty much verbatim what I was going to post!

    Very nice

5-2 guys?? C’mon…we’re suppose to be playing good hockey right now and all the sudden our goalies are crappie the bed! Jesus, 3rd period was painful! We gotta score some goals boys. With the way we played lastnight I wouldn’t be shocked if we were one and done in the playoffs….if we even make it!

Hockey players are a different breed of pro athlete

    Classy move

Hockey players are a breed of pro athlete that kids can look up to. I see the Blackhawk players do this all the time.

Classy. That stick is about $200.

Here, have this. It didn’t do me any good tonight, maybe it’ll be better for you. 😉

This isn’t big news. He did this many times while here in Philly. He just did it with the goals he gave up. Yep, not A dry eye at the old Wells Fargo Center
