Video: Nash shoves Bobrovsky after whistle, scrum ensues

Mar 21, 2014, 9:06 PM EDT

Sergei Bobrovsky looked to be all smiles as he pushed Rick Nash‘s stick aside after a whistle, and it didn’t look like Nash was particularly fond of that.

A scuffle broke out late in the second period of Friday’s game between the New York Rangers and Columbus Blue Jackets. Nash had a scoring chance and was stopped by Bobrovsky, who then pushed Nash’s stick aside as the Rangers’ forward went to pick it up. Nash then gave Bobrovsky a shove, which earned him a minor penalty and caused a massive pile-up of bodies near the end boards.

There were three penalties called on the play – to Nash, and coincidental roughing minors to the Rangers’ Chris Kreider and Blue Jackets’ Artem Anisimov. Earlier in the evening, the Blue Jackets paid tribute to Nash, who was playing in Columbus for the first time since getting traded to New York.

This makes me love Bob so much more, and HATE Nash

Just for some context, Bob hit Nash in the back of the leg with his stick in the first period, so wasn’t completely unwarranted.

You mean clearing the crease? Then yes he did. This is Bob flexing his muscles and saying this is my team now and the disaster years of nash are over (not his fault, teams around him were terrible). This team was making a statement even though they lost.

@4buckiz. yaaa dude, great statement. sorry the bluejackets r a joke…..

@hawksin5 I love how easy Blackhawk fans forget that they won 5 cups in 87 years including decades of it only being 6 teams. Not saying the franchise is bad, but they should stop running their mouth like they are the best team in history.

      • no - Mar 22, 2014 at 12:27 PM

        or what, @thomasvanek?

I agree my fellow hawks enthusiasts should be more up to date on their history, but ultimately we are the best team in recent history. further, the guy you’re responding to made no assertion about the blackhawks.

lastly, every franchise Thomas vanek has played for has been crap for the past 20 years, so I highly doubt a comparison of our preferred franchises would come out in your favor.

        stay mad though

I’ve seen players receive unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for flinging another player stick like that…. I think Bobrovsky got away with one there. Rangers had the last laugh though so its all good.

pretty funny really. Glad the better team won

  4. bleedrangerblue - Mar 21, 2014 at 9:56 PM

Look people jackets were dirty tonight. They hit high , after whistles etc. They targeted Nash. I love it. We beat them. Look forward to future games…

A statement?? Play hockey then. Nash has to fight? I’m laughing. They tried to intimidate the Rangers. They would have been better off playing hockey. Chippy dirty team. FU jackets. LGR!!!

    • 4buckiz - Mar 22, 2014 at 1:50 AM

Nash had to fight? If u watch the game he had a huge advantage over matty. We got in his head. Don’t forget it

Bobrovsky took a page out of Billy Smith’s book tonight . Big game for the NYR and 2 big points!

Nash was just pissed he had to waste all those years playing in that Mecca of Hockey, Columbus.
