Wild’s Prosser tossed for elbowing; Devils’ Sestito is ‘coherent’

Mar 20, 2014, 8:34 PM EDT

Minnesota Wild defenseman Nate Prosser received a five-minute major and game misconduct for elbowing New Jersey Devils winger Tim Sestito on Thursday.

Video of the collision isn’t available yet, but CJ Fogler uploaded a GIF of the incident; Sestito needed to be helped off of the ice after the hit.

More than a few people wondered if the correct call was made.

Prosser, 27, has been suspended by the NHL once (one game in April 2012) during his NHL career.

No chance thats a good call. 0 intent. You look up and see someone flying at you to hit you, you may stiffen your arm thats already out there (he didnt throw it out there to hit him with) to brace the impact. Terrible call

I wish the title put elbowing in quotes…

this was a horrible call, equally horrible to how the Wild are playing. Can’t watch anymore, time to fold some socks.

Sestitio tries to take a run at prosser, prosser defensively puts his arm up, gets ejected for protecting himself?

    horrendous call

Penalty. No suspension or ejection needed

  5. sjsharks66 - Mar 20, 2014 at 8:47 PM

Not even a penalty. These refs are giving out 5’s like candy. It is out of control.

hi ho sailor theyve tied it up

  7. nolockoutpricks - Mar 20, 2014 at 9:47 PM

should have been a charge or boarding on sissy

  8. clarke16 - Mar 20, 2014 at 11:16 PM

The only penalty there was that someone didn’t give the ref a rabbitt punch to the nuts for making that call…

A ref handing out five and a game based on nothing but an injured player? Shocker.

I’ll keep saying it until something changes: The refs need to be instructed that in order to hand out a penalty, especially a major/game, they have to actually observe the illegal action. They shouldn’t be calling a penalty after the fact just because someone was injured on the play.

I suggest that until the ref’s prove that they can get the call right on the ice, that all 5 and games should have to be reviewed in Toronto and they have to explain exactly why. How about this one from last year, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLqU8apsnLs#t=115 where the ref with the worst view of the hit (he was being blocked from being able to view the actual contact, and just went with the head snapping back) called the 5 and game.

    Thats a bad call.

But Neal only gets a 2 minute minor to trying to chop a guy’s head off during the Pens/Wings game? Wow.

Nice that we all found something to agree on. Refs should be embarrassed.
On a different note, nice of the Wild to at least show up for one period.

I think once the refs get fined and put in the box for BS calls, it will never end! BS call, just a BS call…..
If the N H L takes it any further they are BS as well.
