Video: Weekes wonders if this is the year for San Jose

Mar 20, 2014, 7:00 PM EDT

It seems like the San Jose Sharks have been knocking on the door for ages, but as fans of their biggest rivals will note particularly loudly, it hasn’t worked out for the long-time contenders in the playoffs. Former NHL goalie Kevin Weekes addresses their Stanley Cup chances in the latest video with fans through the Edward Jones Face Time initiative.

The Sharks are currently in a neck-and-neck battle with the Anaheim Ducks for the Pacific Division title and are within striking distance of the top seed in the West. They have 12 games left on their schedule.

This is the same story over the last 5-10 years. They will choke as always with jumbo joe leading the choke. Don’t get me wrong as a bruins fan I do like jumbo but he cannot get it done come playoff time

Someone is dreaming, once san Jose meets up with a checking, grinding, large offensive team, they’ll soon realize that they are missing some key components to a cup run.

they should have traded Joe for some picks and garnered more depth in the lines, rather than resigned him .

I’ll say this: if my Blackhawks can’t bring home another Cup this year, I’ll be rooting for Nemo to get his 2nd ring.

Why all the hate for jumbo people?

Joe Thornton is a playoff monster. He is a point per game in the post season. Just because Milbury and JR say he does nothing, does not make it true. It really bothers me as a Sharks fan when Thornton is scoring in the playoffs and NBC’s announcers say he is a terrible leader. Then in the same breath praise Toews for his amazing leadership on their cup run. In which he did nothing until the couple final games. Don’t get me wrong, Toews is an amazing player. There is just so much bias remarks made during the playoffs that stick with a players name.

This is the best shot the Sharks have had in the past 3 years. I just hope they can get it done.

dude, Toews is on a complete other level than Thornton.

      • sjsharks66 - Mar 20, 2014 at 10:34 PM

I never said he was bad. In fact I believe I said he was an amazing player. However, he tends to disappear in the playoffs. Yet is still praised as the greatest leader in the game. While Thornton is picked apart for averaging a point per game in the post season.

I totally agree with you Joe is awesome, but I don’t want the Sharks to win. Go Habs Go! LOL!

“you now have raffi torres back in the mix, raffi is a game changer. all he does is get to the stanley cup finals. i love what he brings to the table and the lower-end of that lineup…” – some black dude on nhl network

well, with that quote every sharks fan just wet his/her/its pants.
