Video: Ales Hemsky scores nifty goal against Lightning

Mar 20, 2014, 9:26 PM EST

Ales Hemsky didn’t draw headlines on trade deadline day, but for many people,* the proposition of watching the talented-yet-often-unlucky forward skate for a playoff contender was pretty enticing.

It remains to be seen if the 30-year-old can help the Ottawa Senators enough to break his playoff drought, but he’s been dazzling at times with his new team. The most awe-inspiring moment came on Thursday, when he shredded the Tampa Bay Lightning for this beauty of a goal:

If that isn’t the goal of the night, it’s going to be an impressive night for hockey highlight reels.

* – OK, for many hockey nerds …

Glad to see he’s finally finding success in Ottawa (at least personal success, the team is still struggling). Very talented player and didn’t deserve much of the criticism and rumors that followed him around Edmonton, as many oft-injured players don’t. Getting to ride shotgun and his recent success I think would encourage him to want to resign in Ottawa, I’m expecting he does. Best of luck to him, hope he can resurrect his career, because when he’s on, he’s an electric player to watch even in his older age.

When he was playing he was usually pretty good, but injuries were the big complaint. He wasn’t on the ice enough to be worth the price at times. While he’s had some seasons where he’s played most of the games, there always seemed to be something keeping him from playing.

That was a slick as goal though.

All his agent needs to show for contract negotiations is “Yo, look how my boy plays when he isn’t on Edmonton. 6 sheets a year!”

    Philthy
Kid has skills and deserves to hit the market. He does seem to have found some chem with #39, err 19. If he wants points’a plenty, hitch your ride to a healthy Spezza; fed up with the Great White North and it’s glorious weather – SJ, PHX or TB would be my July one guess.
