Video: Bruins’ Lucic hits Canadiens’ Emelin from behind

Mar 12, 2014, 11:52 PM EST

Milan Lucic was a force Wednesday for the Boston Bruins. But he did miss out on a trip to the penalty box in the first period after hitting Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman Alexei Emelin from behind.

Lucic was pressing on the forecheck as Emelin went back for the puck. The numbers on Emelin’s jersey were directly facing Lucic, when he finished his check hard into the boards. However, there was no call on the play.

Emelin, shaken up from the hit, remained in the game. Lucic would score his 20th goal of the season, as the Bruins skated to a 4-1 victory.

It’s not a hit from behind because he barely grazed Emelin’s arm. Believe it or not Emelin likes to oversell these things.

  2. missthemexpos - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:16 AM

Both skates did leave the ice surface.

    • hockeyflow33 - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:56 AM

So what? This isn’t a throw-in on a soccer field

  3. bigbadbruins77 - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:45 AM

    Looch owns emelin!

  4. sjsharks66 - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:58 AM

Not a bad hit! He hit more of his arm then his back.

  5. leafs2013 - Mar 13, 2014 at 3:57 AM

If his numbers are facing you it’s a hit from behind, figure it out guys!

  7. sens101 - Mar 13, 2014 at 7:08 AM

Wasn’t that bad. 2 min call at the most

  8. tlndma - Mar 13, 2014 at 7:23 AM

You can’t hit a player on the numbers and he didn’t.

    • matt14gg - Mar 13, 2014 at 2:53 PM

Exactly, he prob caught more of the head than he wanted to, but nothing more than a 2 minute minor and even at that it was 50/50 on whether it was even a penalty.

  9. thecheeman - Mar 13, 2014 at 7:45 AM

Watching that game live it seemed vicious but look at that video again. The 4 in Emelin’s jersey is visible the entire time. Seems like an entirely responsible hit where Lucic only got Emelin’s left side at most.

  10. hockey412 - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:14 AM

I’ve never actually seen Lucic play an entire game without hitting someone in the back or boarding them. It doesn’t get called, period, in his case. Same with Boychuk’s cross checks and punches thrown during play.

In other news, Jacobs is one of the dirtiest billionaires you’ll find, anywhere.

    • titansbro - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:33 AM

can’t disagree on jacobs, but the rest of your post is just dumb.

    • valoisvipers - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:36 AM

Cry me a freaking river! The refs don’t and won’t call everything.

  11. titansbro - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:34 AM

Looked like a good hit to me. But no mention of the Eller hit on Caron huh? And then Eller won’t stand up for himself against the smaller Caron? Sounds about right.

  12. lordstanley65 - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:36 AM

Should they have called 911, Mr Tucker? I believe you are overblowing this one a bit.

  13. pastabelly - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:36 AM

Looks like he hit him in the side. The lack of a call on the ice was correct and there will be no fine.

  14. joey4id - Mar 13, 2014 at 8:47 AM

I wouldn t have expected anything but a win from the Bruins. Regardless of the rivalry the Bruins clearly have the better team. These are good prep games leading up to the playoffs.

    • valoisvipers - Mar 13, 2014 at 9:11 AM

Yes indeed it appears the Bruins are in “fine tuning mode”. They will be tough to beat this year.Did the Pens learn anything from last year’s embarrassment at the hands of the Bruins? Will Flower tend the net like he can in the regular season or another playoff flop? Will the Pens high octane offense produce like they can or be once again stifled by the Bruin’s “layers”? I see these two teams meeting in the East but watch out for the Flyers being the Dark Horse and spoilers in the East.

      • jdlinder11 - Mar 13, 2014 at 9:40 AM

The Penguins, while having a better system this year, don’t have the depth to beat the bruins. Too many injuries and not enough signings due to cap issues to fill out the holes will be their downfall.

With that said, they are better than every other team in the east except Boston IMO. I predict they will get to the ECF and lose to Boston. Hopefully it’ll be more entertaining this year.

At least he’s hitting d-men and not goalies! He’s moving up in the world.

    • therooneyskilledwebster - Mar 13, 2014 at 9:46 AM

Can’t wait til he lines up Orpie in the playoffs so we can see him soil himself again all over the ice, or better yet, your resident cheap shot artist Neal.

      • jdlinder11 - Mar 13, 2014 at 10:05 AM

I’m hoping Orpik doesn’t play in the playoffs cause he blows

  16. upyourstodd - Mar 13, 2014 at 11:02 AM

Kind of embarrassing that this is the story that gets run over and hour after the game. So many other talking points to this game and THIS is what gets written. Go PHT.

    • Shanahammer - Mar 13, 2014 at 11:14 AM

Yeah it’s been months since the last PHT bruins troll.

    • gallyhatch - Mar 13, 2014 at 11:47 AM

Sometimes the PHT writers are the biggest trolls on this site.

  17. stratomaticfan - Mar 13, 2014 at 11:23 AM

Came from side. Emelin turned a little. Hit mostly shoulder. Not a bad hit.

But in Montreal, it’s worthy of a 911 call.

Funny how they didn’t whine about the early weak PP they were handed or the slow whistle on the only goal they scored.

  18. montrealbbr - Mar 13, 2014 at 11:53 AM

Typical dirty play by a Bruin that doesnt get called by the refs. I never understand how they get away with hits like this.

    • thesportsjudge - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:23 PM

Montreal NEVER gets called for their “typical” diving, so I guess it evens out?

    • tlndma - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:24 PM

It’s simple. Take off your bleu, blanc et rouge glasses.

    • bsfan77 - Mar 13, 2014 at 10:20 PM

Hey montrealbbr, love how you dont have anything to say about Emelin’s hit on Caron. Number facing Emelin as he buries Caron’s head into the boards. Then as a typical Montreal player does, he runs away like a little girl when Caron confronts him. With the amount of diving your subpar team does, they should try out for olympic diving. And as far as not getting called, take a look at your own team before you start talking about others. Help your team get their golf clubs ready because you wont be getting out of the first round! But that is something you should be used to by now. Subban should get out of there now before he loses value. Have a hood summer, tool!

    Cam Tucker = Habs fan

    • thesportsjudge - Mar 13, 2014 at 12:55 PM

I’d rather that, than Bruins hater O’Brien.
