Kay Adams asks the question, Brough and I answer. Plus, our picks for the deal we liked the best!

No, but maybe a playoff run in the weak east

  2. flyboystransport - Mar 6, 2014 at 5:41 PM

No. Not all around enough of a player to make the rangers better. Very good offensively but wont help in the trenches or penalty kill. If they added a rugged winger along with st louis then maybe. He doesnt give them an edge over the pens, flyers, or jackets all of whom theyre gonna see in the 1st 2 rounds and im not including the bruins or leafs

No doubt NY’s is more of an offensive threat with St. Louis as opposed to Callahan. Will he and Richards stay together 5 on 5? if he does and they click (looked good vs the leafs) and both play on the PP, then that could push the Rangers a little further into the playoffs. It is easier to replace a guy like Callahan than it is a goal scorer. The question for NY is, who will fill the void left by the departure of their captain? Only time will tell, but I suspect Vigneault will have to help the alternates. They probably wish they had Messier around to talk about leadership skills with the alternates.

Defensively this team is a joke. Not even close. Paper champs, maybe. Cup champs? Not by a country mile

Defensively? What are you smoking? They have one of the top D cores in the league…

Their problem has always been scoring. This should help. Enough to be cup contenders? Sure, they can contend but I still believe Pit and Boston are top dogs in the east.

Could they get hot in the playoffs? Absolutely. It’s the playoffs and they have one of the top goalies in the league. They have alot of really talented forwards- Nash, MSL, Stepan, Brassard, Zuccarello, Richards among others. If the offense messes they could be dangerous.

Too early to tell but yeah I could see them doing some real damage. I could just as easily see them crash and burn haha.

I see you registered your name back when Torts was still coach haha

I don’t know about cup contender but the line with him/Richards and Hagelin looked to have some good chemistry out of the gates last night.

  6. villi5ed - Mar 6, 2014 at 6:26 PM

No. Spoken as a NYR honk since the mid-60s. But not simply because of the “brawn” factor so may point to. Yes, Boston is bigger and more physical. But history is replete with instances where the skilled and tough team lost to the skilled and
less tough team in the late rounds of the post-season. I think especially of DET-PHI in 1997 when everybody and his
mother thought the Legion of Doom et alia would go through the Red Wings like a hot knife through butter. As it turned out? A total mismatch. You can’t hit what you can’t catch (or out-coach).

No, the reason the NYR will not win is because the organization is rotten to the core. Dolan is the Anti-Christ and Glen “GM for Life” Sather is his handmaiden. There is no imperative to win that comes down from the top and permeates every aspect of the franchise —– because the imperative of the franchise is financial above any other concern. Nothing will be achieved in the way of Stanley Cup titles until those two nincompoops are gone ….. and that isn’t happening any time soon.

  7. mcphillthy - Mar 6, 2014 at 6:49 PM

No. The only reason they even have a shot though is not because of st Louis at all….Henrik = rangers. No Henrik and this isn’t even a play off team. No offense to any rangers fans. You have a decent team. But no lundqvist and the rangers are done

  8. c9castine - Mar 6, 2014 at 7:20 PM

No but they are a bit better now. Not even close to a cup contender yet

Yes ! Any thing can happen in the second season !

Stepan needs to pick up his play big time on the top line. We don’t have the size to beat the Bruins in a seven game series. I can see an upset over a team like the Pens but the Bruins will dominate the Blue Shirts.

    • mactruck27 - Mar 7, 2014 at 1:03 PM

Stepan has been a ghost out there all season. He definitely needs to get back to last year’s level if we want to do anything in the playoffs. Like, you know, make them.

did i actually see a flyers fan on this post poking fun at another team’s defense? … laughable at best.
