Stamkos returns to Lightning … as their new captain

Mar 6, 2014, 7:46 PM EDT

Martin St. Louis isn’t around to send Steven Stamkos perfect one-timer passers any longer, yet the Tampa Bay Lightning made it something of a symbolic hand-off following the big trade. Stamkos didn’t just return to action against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday; he did so as the team’s new captain.

Stamkos becomes the team’s new captain at 24. Tonight marks his first game since that scary injury on Nov. 11.

Haha it was like he didn’t know what to do! I’m sure he’ll be able to figure the rest out he’s a good player

It was the right decision to give it to St. Louis last year and it was the right decision to not wait and give it to Stamkos today.

That picture couldn’t look more right. Congrats Lightning fans a new era officially begins.

A new era. Richards, Lecavalier and St. Louis are gone now. To quote Stamkos’ Coke Zero commercial, I guess this is his Moment Zero.
