Video: Ovechkin rattles Raffl with big hit

Mar 5, 2014, 10:08 PM EDT

It’s been a rough game between the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers, and the star players have been involved.

After a first-period brawl between the two teams, Capitals’ star and captain Alex Ovechkin decided to throw his weight around, crunching Flyers forward Michael Raffl with a huge hit along the boards. It also appeared that Ovechkin may have gotten his arms up on the hit. There was no penalty on the play.

Can we have a story about Steve Downie’s ACTUAL elbowing penalty?

I don’t see a problem. That’s actually pretty clean by ovie standards.

Hard to tell from the one video posted, but it sure looks like Raffl tries to duck under the hit. Need a better video to make a call on this one… but I will say that given the lack of response from Raffl and the rest of the Flyers in what was otherwise a chippy game, it would seem the players on the ice thought the hit was fine.

How was Raffl rattled? he got up and played the rest of the game and barely fell, and i think he fell because he tried to avoid the hit, but ovi was going high whether on purpose or not his arm and stick were going up.
