Kings make splash, acquire Gaborik from Columbus

Mar 5, 2014, 1:22 PM EDT

Marian Gaborik #10 of the Columbus Blue Jackets skates against the New York Islanders at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on October 5, 2013 in Uniondale, New York. The Blue Jackets defeated the Islanders 3-2 in the shootout.

Los Angeles needed a goalcoring winger, so it went out and got one.

The Kings have acquired Slovakian sniper Marian Gaborik from Columbus, according to ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun. The Jackets will receive Matt Frattin, a second-round and conditional third-round pick, and it’s being reported Columbus will retain a significant portion of Gaborik’s salary

This marks the second time in consecutive trade deadlines that Gaborik has been dealt — last season, the Blue Jackets acquired his services from the Rangers in a last-second blockbuster.

The 32-year-old has struggled through an injury-plagued ’13-14 campaign, missing 17 games with a sprained knee and another 22 with a broken collarbone. Gaborik actually suffered the break in his first game back off the knee sprain, so he was essentially shelved for three months.

When healthy, though, Gaborik can be a dynamic scorer. He has 14 points in 22 games this year and isn’t that far removed from his 41-goal, 76-point effort with the Rangers in 2011-12.

For L.A., the move is reminiscent to the Jeff Carter acquisition of two years ago. Desperately seeking offense, the Kings splashed big at the deadline to acquire Carter and the move paid off, as he helped the club win the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

This year, the Kings have struggled mightily to find the back of the net and sit 27th in the NHL in goals per game (2.32) — only the Canucks, Flames and Sabres score less.

UPDATE: A little more on what Columbus receives, per the Dispatch…

blomfeld, how do you feel about this addition? Not sure he and coach Sutter will be on the same page day-in and day-out.

    • parasolmonster - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:26 PM

Blom’s currently choosing which Elvis video to include. Give him a few hours.

      • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:28 PM

        Good one. :-)

      • thailer35 - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:35 PM

I’d like to see a 20 minute or so documentary of blomfeld and how his posts come to fruition here on PHT. I’d add that to my queue on netflix.

        *** A message for Angrytwitterguy & Charlieconway c/o Bloomberg Environmental News ***

Excrement: waste material, especially fecal matter, that is expelled from the body after digestion … such filth can occasionally be encountered ‘electronically’ on the internet, at which time one is advised to ‘dispose’ of such waste ‘post haste’ and with ‘due’ prejudice !

    • angrytwitterguy - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:06 PM

When Joey got banned last year, Blomfeld disappeared as well.

Suggesting they are the same people
Now we have the man love between the two pretty much confirming what most here already knew.

When Joey isn’t getting banned for being disruptive with his weird lies about having inside sources, I guess he’s shifted to having conversations with himself.

      So weird

      • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:20 PM

Really? And you still believe the earth is flat? You couldn’t find your a hole if you had a flashlight, a mirror, and a GPS device. Move on little one. Go play with your Furby.

      • angrytwitterguy - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:24 PM

Exactly the weak type of comeback I’d expect from Blomfeld or some weird loser shut-in with really poor social skills.

      • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:32 PM

Yes! Because your comments are brimming with so much intellect. Oy vey!

      • angrytwitterguy - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:39 PM

My comments are just stating facts.

You got banned, and the moment you did, Blomfeld didn’t post anymore.
AKA You got IP banned, and neither of yas were heard from again until they either listed the ban or you figured out how to reset your IP.

I mean anyone who was here when it happened immediately noticed that Blomfeld was gone as well.

      • angrytwitterguy - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:41 PM

So I’m not sure why you continue to post here or even make any attempt to engage in conversion with people here.

The majority knows you’re using multiple accounts, that you’re Blomfeld as well, that you were caught lying here, so why bother trying with a group of people who has no respect for you whatsoever?

      • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 3:07 PM

        Yawn!

      • charlieconway96 - Mar 5, 2014 at 3:14 PM

Hmmm, if your theory is correct mrtwitterguy, then we “joefield” is one very very lonely individual. The Jekyll/Hyde aspect to that would blow my mind more than the Russians “letting their olympic coach go”.

Now we all have to decide wether or not to dedicate the time and possible hangover that it would take to wrap our heads around this…

      • angrytwitterguy - Mar 5, 2014 at 3:17 PM

You must not have been around back when he got the ban hammer. There were posts all that week about how it’s confirmed that they were one and the same.

      • charlieconway96 - Mar 5, 2014 at 3:21 PM

Nah, I wasn’t around back then. Believe it or not, I was just reading this book on Al Gore and decided to see what this whole “Internet” thing was all about a few months back.

      • blomfeld - Mar 6, 2014 at 12:02 AM

Yes ! … U R definitely excrement ! … waste material, especially fecal matter, that is expelled from the body after digestion.

You offer this site Nothing and the VAST MAJORITY would like to see you banned AGAIN.

      • machosasquatcho - Mar 6, 2014 at 4:36 PM

slysipops and aldog83 are two other blomfeld alternate accounts. How much of this forum is blomfeld talking to himself?

Anyway, he promotes himself on HFboards as being a PHT “legend”. Yeah…kinda sad honestly.

        Click here to see: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1192455

      • angrytwitterguy - Mar 6, 2014 at 4:48 PM

HFBoards would ban him swiftly for his routine. The Mods there have no problem removing tools like him.

      • angrytwitterguy - Mar 6, 2014 at 4:53 PM

        I don’t think Aldog83 is his though

      • machosasquatcho - Mar 6, 2014 at 5:01 PM

aldog83 uses ellipses and quotation marks in the same way as blomfield, namely arbitrarily and unnecessarily. I’d put good money on it, sadly.

      • machosasquatcho - Mar 6, 2014 at 5:14 PM

Quickly, blomfeld! Log on to all your accounts and downvote us repeatedly!

Don’t forget to include a video!

    • slysipops - Mar 5, 2014 at 4:50 PM

i hate to agree with joey … but i think he’s right on this one !

      • aldog83 - Mar 6, 2014 at 6:26 PM

        Hello I am not Bloomfield.

I dont watch old war movies or care for Elvis (my parents took me to Graceland on VACA when I was younger though)

But I will work on my punctuation to appease the Hockey Fans.

Sorry. I just want to participate like everyone else.

Just thought I would chime after seeing the video on You Tube.

Although I am concerned with the Injuries to collarbone and knee….

I hope Gaborik can put the puck in the net and that the Kings pick up their offense.

Richards, Brown, Williams all need to help Kopitar and Carter. (maybe Sutter can let Doughty cut loose more! I was going crazy watching Doughty Dominate and score in the olympics while getting to see SO little of that in LA)

Kings will have a difficult time getting past St Louis, San Jose, Chicago Or Anaheim scoring just 2 goals a game.

        HOWEVER…..

If the KINGS can score 3+ a game….. they will be tough to beat.

        P.S. KUDOS to Dean Lombardi!

        Getting Gaborik….

Keeping TOFFOLI! And recovering two 2nds traded to Buffalo for Reghyr!

        As of today Kings now have 3 picks in the top 61 selections in the 2014 draft (King’s 1st , Buffalo’s 2nd & Edmonton’s 3rd -likely top picks in 2nd and 3rd)

AND in 2015 a 1st (King’s) 2nd (Buffalo’s) and another 2nd (Edmonton’s) – the two 2nd’s will likely be near the top of their respective rounds.

        GO KINGS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • blomfeld - Mar 5, 2014 at 11:23 PM

      ACHTUNG JOSEF !

My friend, my comrade, my fellow Roman. I can assure you Josef that my feelings about this ‘glorious’ acquisition are no less ‘music to my ears’ than Elvis being offered up another dozen ‘caramelized’ doughnuts back in circa 75-77 ! Yes sir, the Western Conference is about to be turned upside down, as we Kings are now going to go on the offensive in way which hasn’t been seen since the Oiler days of the mid 80’s ! Hold on to your hat friend, as ‘hell hath no fury’ like a King’s army on the march !!! :)

      GO GABORIK !!

GO STANLEY CUP CHAMPION LA KINGS !!!!!!

GO ‘CRUSHING’ OF THE ENTIRE WESTERN CONFERENCE !!!!!!!!!!

  2. crazemastercraze - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:25 PM

Well, he should fit the Kings bill. They can’t score and he’s the biggest postseason choke artist of all so totally makes sense

    • ignath - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:51 PM

Not only a post-season choke artist, but a glass cannon as well. This guy is as durable as Marty Havlat…take this from a Wild fan who watched both of them sit on IR for long portions of seasons.

    • wtfkwp - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:51 PM

How exactly does a “postseason choke artist” fit with the Kings, Einstein?

      • pirovash88 - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM

My thoughts exactly, i think he was referring to the Sharks.

    • kingsfan93 - Mar 5, 2014 at 3:01 PM

Crazemastercraze – 35pts in 54gms played in playoffs not a bad stat for playoffs there buddy.

Even though knowing Gaborik was on a bad team with not much talent up-front to go along with him, He is still about a point a game player with a .87.

      If Gaborik stays healthy, LOOKOUT!

Choke artist…..what a laugh with you making that comment there of Gaborik being.

      • 2qswing - Mar 5, 2014 at 6:27 PM

“Even though knowing Gaborik was on a bad team with not much talent up-front”

Check goals-for this year kingsfan93. Jackets trail only Pit, Boston and Leafs in East. During the time Gabby was here, we scored goals! just not because of him. Bad team? I think not. Never thought I’d say it but offense is not the issue. YOU are referring to the old CBJ. Agree with you though that Gaborik’s playoff numbers are not bad.

  3. qauzaq - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:25 PM

I’d guess Williams is on his way out since we are already deep at rw. Kinda confused by this move, we need a LW

  4. pirovash88 - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:28 PM

Wow, as a Kings fan, i never would’ve seen Gaborik coming to L.A. It’s a bold move, but Gaborik is really injury prone, sort of makes me worry.

    • getadealdonealready - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:38 PM

It’s not a coincidence teams he is on never win, when on the ice not defensively sound, not a great playmaker, but when healthy he is fast (at least was in his younger years), and can flat out score. Just don’t ask him to back check, play on D side of puck and all will be fine. Good luck with that.

      • mweekes22 - Mar 6, 2014 at 4:45 PM

He was a good goal scorer for the minnesota wild when they had nothing else but saku koivu and they played some of the best defensive hockey at the time. He scored 40 plus goals for the rangers and they made a couple the east finals vs. new jersey who the kings later destroyed. I agree that he’s injury prone and if thats the case and it happens again, the kings will owe him nothing. I will take a chance on him rather than dwight king or another fourth line worthy guy on that line.

    • flyerspsu - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:43 PM

you didnt give up much tho, you bought low on him and could have gotten very well have gotten a steal if Gaborik stays healthy

  5. sjsharks66 - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:29 PM

    *goalscoring

  6. storminator16 - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:30 PM

I’m guessing this is a precursor to another Columbus move. Wait for it…

  7. rsl22 - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:30 PM

LA only sent Matt Frattin and two non-first round draft picks, and CBJ is paying half Gaborik’s salary. That seems like a decent deal to help LA make a run at the Cup. Vanek or Moulson are likely to cost a good bit more than that.

    • charlieconway96 - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:20 PM

True, but considering what the Kings gave up here I wouldn’t mind seeing them make another big move in the next 40 minutes…

  8. 7mantel - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:33 PM

Why in the world did the Kings make this move, Marian (Glass ) Gaborik can not stay off the injury list !

    • rsl22 - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:40 PM

      Any player can get injured.

He’s a pending UFA, so if ever Gaborik was going to play through some injuries, it’s now or never for him to show what he’s worth. At 32, he really needs a solid playoffs.

      • drewsylvania - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:45 PM

        Whereas Gaborik *will* get injured.

      • 7mantel - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:47 PM

True , some more tun others ! Maybe his pain threshold holds him back .

      • nothanksimdriving123 - Mar 5, 2014 at 4:24 PM

Indeed, mantel, most guys would just play through a broken collarbone.

  10. 11stanleycups - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:40 PM

If Gaborek stays healthy the Kings made a good deal. Trouble is Gaborek has been injury prone and Columbus obviously feels he won’t be much of a contributor down the stretch.

    Win Columbus.

    • angrytwitterguy - Mar 5, 2014 at 2:10 PM

He has some sorta personally disorder and no friends I’m guessing. You would think after the embarrassment of being banned here, after being outted as a liar who has no sources other copy and pasting stories from other sites like HFboards and others he would make an attempt to be normal.

But nope, he craves validation from this place and will do anything to get it. He really needs a girlfriend or boyfriend and some medication.

SLYSIPOPS here…… i was kind of surprised about being accused of one of joey’s alias ! i really did not think too many persons paid that much attention to my post ! okay , now first….. i am me, and me only. i do not mind BLOMFELDS videos in fact, i was doing some of my own but for some reason they stopped working correctly for me ?? BLOMS is a KINGS fan …i am a BLACKHAWKS fan , we have teased each other about the supremacy of our favorite over the other. i have also ragged BLOMS about his constant 82 game schedule rants…..if you read my post you should have seen that. as for joey we have had our differences ,and it did get a little bit heated . i don’t pay much attention to joeys post but i don’t hold grudges either, so whatever on that issue! i wish i could get the youtube videos to work for me as they once did …. i imagined them making people ticked a little ( all in fun of course ) and tried to pick ones that i thought filled the bill so in finishing …… GOOD …BAD…or INDIFFERENT there is only one SLYSIPOPS …….STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS !
