Habs get goalie Dubnyk in trade with Preds

In a move that’s going to lead to a lot of questions about the health of currently injured goalie Carey Price, the Montreal Canadiens have acquired Devan Dubnyk from the Nashville Predators for future considerations.

Dubnyk, of course, started the season in Edmonton, where he struggled badly before being traded to Nashville in January. The 27-year-old is a pending unrestricted free agent with an unenviable .891 save percentage this season.

The Preds will reportedly eat half of Dubnyk’s salary in the deal with the Habs. Remember, with Pekka Rinne healthy now, there’s no pressing need for Nashville to keep Dubnyk.

I guess MARTY to MONTREAL is dead now ?

    • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Didn’t hear that one. How would that have improved Martin’s situation? He’d be playing back up to Price same as he’s doing in NJ, and he wants to get out of being seen as a backup.

        price is on IR…

      • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:31 PM

I get that. But Brodeur is looking for a net, and he would lose it as soon as Price got healthy.

Word of out Montreal is that Price would be ready to go if the playoffs were to start tomorrow, but, because he still needs healing time they want to tread carefully. Seems like he’ll be sidelined a little longer.

WOW Bugffalo gives up the better prospect and two #2 .s ?? for a pair of 4th rounders players ?/
WOW —-as bad as the RANGERS TRADE.

At least the RANGERS get a 38 yr old player.

But gave up their Captain CALLIHAN
    and
    2014 #1 draft pick
2015 #2 draft pick–turns to another #1 if NY makes ECF.

    BOTH BAD TRADES>

and thats why your a GM of a hockey team? Tim Murray knows what he is doing. He is awesome at finding talent and bringing it to the NHL. He built Ottawa’s farm system back up and is definitely familiar with a lot of AHL players and prosects etc.

I thought Dubnyk was on waivers?

    • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:08 PM

      He was. Since Monday.

      • pghpensfanprecrosby - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:08 PM

So why would they trade for him? Couldn’t Montreal of just picked him up?

      • joey4id - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:22 PM

Yesterday’s tests were probably not as positive as the Habs organization was hoping. Bergeron suddenly became interested when the test results came out.

he was and cleared the reason they traded was so nashville would eat half the salary

      • pghpensfanprecrosby - Mar 5, 2014 at 1:09 PM

        ah, makes sense.

Not a great sign for Carey Price if they are bringing in Dubnyk
