Columbus gets d-man Schultz (Nick, not Justin) from Oilers

The Blue Jackets have added some depth on defense, acquiring Edmonton defenseman Nick Schultz in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Schultz, 31, has spent the last two years in Edmonton after coming over from Minnesota at the ’12 deadline. He’s a steady presence -- averaging close to 18 minutes a night -- that is durable and rarely misses games (he played all 82 in 2011-12, and all 48 last season.)

Columbus was looking for blueline depth after veteran Fedor Tyutin suffered a high ankle sprain while playing for Russia at the Olympics.

Earlier today, the Jackets flipped Marian Gaborik to Los Angeles for winger Matt Frattin and a pair of picks.
