Helm (upper body) hurt vs. Devils, won’t return

Helm

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but the Red Wings have suffered another injury.

This time, it’s Darren Helm — the speedy center was hurt during tonight’s game in New Jersey and won’t return, Detroit announced during the third period.

As of now, it’s unclear what Helm injured or how significantly he’s hurt. But in the grand scheme of things, any ailment can’t be good — Detroit is already down the services of centers Henrik Zetterberg and Stephen Weiss, who suffered a setback in his recovery from a groin strain earlier this week.

The Wings are also currently without Mikael Samuelsson and Jakub Kindl — both on IR — and have been without the services of Pavel Datsyuk for the last two games.

    Shocking…

I can’t believe Franzen catches so much crap from Wings fans…

I like him. But the general knock on him from us Wings fans is that he has stretches like this where he scores a ton, and then is completely invisible for even longer stretches.

Franzen is just so damn streaky that he’s hard to appreciate at times, or even tolerate. But every now and then he catches fire and reminds us that maybe he’s worth the $4 million cap hit that will go on for seemingly ever.

Even being streaky, his .6 PPG is certainly worth the $4M cap hit. As good or better than most players at that cap hit. Plus he cranks it up in the playoffs (.77 PPG).

Because we watch him play every day. He just caught fire recently. Which is about the time he decides to show up. And when we don’t have Datsyuk or Zetterberg playing he is much more noticable. But he can be a very lazy player and at most is soft on the puck. He is a good hockey player when he decided he wants to show up. I still would of rather had hossa over him.

If some players were diamond, Helm would be the opposite.

Great player, but you breathe on Darren and he goes on IR for weeks.

Love the dude, but he’s got major health issues

Man this guy is every coaches dream for a 3rd line center, but he’s made of glass!!

Helm is like Kris Draper reincarnated, and we could really use that, but he just needs to stay healthy!

I was unaware of Draper’s passing.
