Video: Toews scores to give Blackhawks two-goal lead over Penguins

Mar 1, 2014, 10:35 PM EDT

Jonathan Toews gave the Chicago Blackhawks a two-goal lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second period of Saturday’s Stadium Series game. That counts as the 20th goal of the season for Toews, the Blackhawks’ captain.

The Blackhawks extended their lead to 3-0 with a goal from Kris Versteeg with less than four minutes remaining in the middle period. Shots after two periods were 31-18 for Chicago.

My only question is why is it not reviewable? The puck is crossing the line when they whistle blows. Does that not mean the officials had intent to blow the whistle?

We have all seen games where the “intent” was to blow the whistle, even when no whistle is heard.

Other than that, the Pens played the first 2 periods like garbage. Should have never given the Hawks a chance for this to be a questionable goal.

What a hoot! It’s obvious that the whistle should not have been blown. The puck was not under the control of the goal keeper. But you want the ref to skate off to huddle up with the other refs to say, “I know I didn’t make a mistake and blow the whistle to stop what should be an obviously good goal, but I meant to make that mistake, so let’s not count the goal, okay fellas?” Are you insane? If his intent was to blow the whistle and he immediately realizes that it would have been a mistake to blow it, he wouldn’t be disallowing the goal. He’d be thanking his lucky stars he couldn’t get the whistle to work in time to make a really stupid call. You are a piece of work and your question is a humongous stretch in logic.

My question is what part did you not see when they were reviewing it?

They broadcasters said it was not reviewable. I saw the officials talking about it. Did not see them talking to the war room. I could be mistaken.

Penguins sucked tonight. I don’t really care about them allowing that goal or not.
