No hearing scheduled for Roussel after bowling over Khudobin

Feb 28, 2014, 4:16 PM EST

Dallas forward Antoine Roussel has no disciplinary hearing scheduled for charging Carolina goalie Anton Khudobin on Thursday night, an NHL spokesman confirmed.

The incident occurred early in the third period of the Stars’ 4-1 win. Here’s the video:

Roussel was given a five-minute charging major and game misconduct for the hit, which shook up Khudobin temporarily but didn’t force him from the game. The Russian goalie finished with 30 saves on 33 shots.

Nor should there be. He would have gone right around him if it wasn’t for Khudobin’s own defenseman pushing Roussel right into him.

That’s what it looked like to me too.

Liles may have bumped into him, but he didn’t really push him. Roussel made no real effort to actually create a shot there, his intention was to crash into the goalie. I like Roussel, he is a decent young player but he learned a hard lesson. Ron Hainsey, who knows better, was willing to teach Roussel that lesson. Issue resolved, nothing more to discuss about this.

Five and a game is more than enough. Guy was in a footrace to the puck and then to the net, plus he got bumped in by the defenseman. That was just good competitive hockey. Sometimes guys get hit in good competitive hockey. Face that fact or go watch soccer.
