Report: Flames’ MacDermid to retire at 24

Interesting news out of Calgary -- according to Sportsnet’s Fan 960, forward Lane MacDermid has opted to retire.

MacDermid, 24, was acquired by Calgary from Dallas in November and appeared in one game for the Flames, spending most of his time with AHL Abbotsford.

The Lane MacDermid situation got a little clearer. He’s officially filed his retirement papers, according to Craig Conroy. #Flames

Conroy told us MacDermid had lost his passion to play, so is moving on from his hockey career. #Flames

Prior to his time with the Flames, MacDermid played with Boston and Dallas -- he was part of the deal that sent Jaromir Jagr to the Bruins at the ’13 NHL Trade deadline.
