Miller puts on showcase as Sabres edge Hurricanes

Jet lag wasn’t a problem for Ryan Miller on Tuesday. It sounds like widespread trade rumors and most of the Carolina Hurricanes’ shots didn’t bother him a whole lot, either, as the Buffalo Sabres won 3-2 largely because of his efforts tonight.

Miller, 33, stopped 36 out of 38 shots in that win. In an odd and fitting twist, he also assisted on both of Christian Ehrhoff‘s goals, including the late game-winner. Tyler Ennis was the other Sabres player who found the net on Tuesday.

Here’s video of the Ehrhoff winner:

Eric Staal and Alexander Semin were the only Hurricanes players who managed to beat Miller tonight, as both collected their 15th goals of the season. It wasn’t such a great evening for Cam Ward, who allowed three goals on just 18 shots. Carolina held a shot advantage in every period but still lost in regulation.

On a night when the bleary-eyed NHL got back to work after a short turnaround from Sochi, Miller made his latest argument that he could give a potential suitor a serious boost.

Miller might have made a difference in Sochi, especially in the Bronze medal game.

Looks like Cam Ward’s best days are behind him. Carolina needs to drop Ward and not get nostalgic. They have a decent lineup, so a solid goalchie would be nice.

Difference in Sochi, not a chance, and nobody played for the Bronze medal, so same answer there. Agree about Ward though, perhaps trade Miller there, where arguably he would make a difference.

Yes it would have made a difference, one thing was Quick had a bad game, he was out of position on many of the goals. Two is Miller is used to playing for a bad team and s till getting the points, he would have been comfortable being left alone all night!
A stupid move by the coach to play one goalie three games in four days with a goalie the caliber of Miller sitting there.
I really hope Miller gets traded to the Caps and wipes out Blysma in the playoffs!

    Not a chance?

Without Miller in Vancouver, there’s “not a chance” they even medal.

He has had better stats on a worse team, than Quick and Howard have had on better teams…with much better defensemen.

It’s hilarious how quick small-minded and bias people dismiss Ryan Miller’s talent…out him on a good team, he would lead them to a cup…and be a top-5 goalie.

most people consider him a top 5 goalie even on buffalo. on a decent team he is a top 3 goalie easy

Miller stole that game last night. The Hurricanes carried the play for the entire evening and he was rock-solid. Sometimes, great goalies do those things. Last night was that night for Miller. Hats off from this Canes fan.

Cam Ward better shape up, otherwise he’s going to find himself on the bench full-time. Anton Khudobin has been very good for the Hurricanes this year. They might just decide to resign him to a multi-year deal and move on from Ward. I wonder if Ward would do well with a change of scenery. It will just be tough to do with his 6.7 mil/year contract.
