If there’s anything Team USA Director of Player Personnel Brian Burke isn’t afraid to do, it’s saying what he believes.

Burke, when talking about what he expects from Team USA in Sochi says he expects nothing but the best. Chuck Gormley of shares the story.

“I know we’re at the point that if we enter any tournament wearing a USA jersey we expect to win,” said Burke. “I think that’s where our program is now. Whether we go in as a favorites doesn’t matter to me. All I care about, and all our players and management care about, is that we expect to win and we plan to do that.”

Burke pulled a page out of Surly of The Seven Duffs playbook saying he only cares about Team USA. Getting concerned about what other teams can do is a losing battle since that can’t be controlled.

After seeing the United States get to the gold medal game twice in the past three Olympics, however, those expectations of winning aren’t out of line.

    GO USA ?

As an avid hockey fan of ‘mixed’ bloodlines and nationalistic allegiances, I find it difficult to take issue with these comments from Burke. Having traveled the world over during my airline career, the US is still my favorite country of all and today I’m rarely ever happier than when I’m stateside ! :) My Canadian passport says that I should be rooting for Crosby and crew and I do, honestly. However I also feel something very strong (if not stronger) for the American team ? Perhaps that’s due to the fact that Jonathan Quick is America’s goalie ? … I honestly don’t know friends ? Nonetheless, I wish the American team all the best and may God be with their enterprise !!! :)

Then why’d you leave off Keith Yandle, Bobby Ryan, and Kyle Okposo?

      ooooh shut up would you.

you know what, i change my mind. i support taking the NHL out of the olympics. maybe then there would be more support for the guys who go instead of idiots bickering and nay saying because the guys they think should be there aren’t.

Can someone explain these non-stop Yandle complaints? Has he really been that good this year?

Then he should also expect to be disappointed with the team he helped put together.

When I see that Burke is involved, particularly at the level of Director of Player Personnel then my expectations immediately decline. We can do much better than Brian Burke if we expect to win!
