According to Russo, Poile wasn’t even on the bench at the time of the incident -- he was in the tunnel leading to the bench area, and was struck when an errant Shea Weber pass ricocheted into Poile’s face.

We’ll monitor the situation and provide updates when available. Poile, 63, is set to travel to Sochi with the American team when the NHL Olympic break begins this weekend.

UPDATE: The Predators have issued the following statement...

Nashville Predators General Manager David Poile was taken to a St. Paul, Minn., hospital today after being struck by an errant puck during the team’s morning skate at Xcel Energy Center. He will remain in the hospital overnight for observation and evaluation, and further information will be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE 2: According to Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press, Poile may have suffered a fairly significant injury...

Told Team USA GM David Poile suffered a fractured orbital bone when he was hit by the errant puck. That’s why he’ll remain hospitalized.
