Jagr on being separated from Zajac: ‘It doesn’t make sense’

The New Jersey Devils have other problems to go along with their inability to close out games of late. Jaromir Jagr is a little grumpy.

Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice reports Jagr isn’t too happy about being taken off a line with center Travis Zajac and he makes his feelings very apparent.

“It doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t want to talk about it either,” said Jagr. “I don’t really (care) either.”

Uh, sure thing Jags.

Jagr was put on a line with Andrei Loktionov at the latest practice. As for coach Peter DeBoer, he said he was a bit reluctant to break up the line knowing that the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer likes to stay consistent with who he works with. He added that wanted more goals and consistency from them.

Jagr opted to go fully sarcastic saying, “That makes sense. Me and Travis, we don’t score many.”

Sick burn.

DeBoer has gotten his share of grief from Devils veterans this season as Martin Brodeur hasn’t been happy about his lack of playing time this season. At the very least, DeBoer can tell his grandchildren he found ways to upset two legends in the same season.

Jagr may be a legend, but he’s also still just a player. DeBoer is his coach. He should learn to keep his mouth shut a bit more often–his comments recently do not do anything to help the team and stuff like that is the reason he doesn’t wear an “A” on his chest. I agree that DeBoer has made some questionable decisions recently, but it’s not Jagr’s place to publicly criticize and be sarcastic about his coach. It’s just disrespectful and undermines the reputation of a great player.

Jagr is a rental now why name him a Captain or Alternate?

    • valoisvipers - Feb 4, 2014 at 11:33 PM

Just maybe Jagr knows a little more about the game than the coach.Wisdom comes with white whiskers.

you know oh so little about jagr lol. best leader on that team hell never take a letter though.

He will be traded in a couple of months anyway.

    • c9castine - Feb 5, 2014 at 12:44 PM

in a couple months, nobody is getting traded.

  3. slaugin - Feb 4, 2014 at 9:55 PM

Wow, I know he was in Boston for short time but that side of Jagr never came out.

    • sabatimus - Feb 4, 2014 at 10:01 PM

Maybe because Julien can actually coach.

      • c9castine - Feb 5, 2014 at 1:20 AM

bingo. people might not like jagr opening his mouth but he speaks from 25 years of hall of fame nhl hockey and winning.

Jagr knows what he’s talking about. But ultimately, his ass isn’t the one about to lose its job. DeBoer has to do what he had to do. In a coach’s way, DeBoer has to empty the tank.

JAAAMMIE, may be a big time player as to points and goals…..but he doesn’t seem to be much of a team player. why don’t you shut up and do what you get paid for at the best you can do your lordship ! he makes his share of flubs that go unmentioned…. it was evident during the playoffs!

Jags is frustrated, yes, not the best thing to tell the media, needs to stay in locker room. It’s time to put the blame for this teams anemic offensive production. Lou L. still thinks goal tending and the trap will win stanley cups. Sorry Lou, your backward thinking doesn’t work anymore. DeBoer is doing all he can with a team that has to play a perfect game to win 2-1. Unless this team drafts and/or trades for guys who can put the puck in the net this team is doomed to be out of the playoffs for some time to come. Get with it Lou!!! A frustrated Devil Fan

Jagr to Pittsburgh. Put him as Sid’s winger. Win the cup. Then retire as a Penguin.

you kidding me? Jagr has more wins and experience in his pinky, than Deboner has in his whole body. Deboner is TERRIBLE coach, and knows jack crap about hockey. He ruined florida, now ruining devils. I admit i wasnt happy about jagrs signing in the beginning, but wow, he has amazed me…by FAR the best player on the team. He has mad stick handling skills, and is the ONLY player that creates plays….heck , the only player that is capable of scoring too evidentally. i gained HUGE respect for him and hope he will play another year. But You piss off Brodeur and Jagr, you are doing something wrong. They are future HOFers…they know boatload more than him and all of us combined.

Veterans like Jagr have more experience than head coaches do. Not all the time but responsible players like him do. If he feels he can contribute with Zajac, he probably can. That’s the way I look at it. He’s one of the best hockey players that ever lived. I think he knows what he’s talking about.

This is the reason I’ve never been a fan of Jagr, even when the Pens won the cups with Jagr as a member of that team, he was no team player. I always felt he was more of a distraction than an asset. He is touted as a cup winner but he was just lucky enough to be drafted onto a team that was already set to contend for a cup and play on a line with Mario. If that wasn’t the case, he may have never won a cup. This is just the way he is…nothing new.

Jagr is right, their line has been absolutely dominant in puck possession this year, why mess up a good thing?

  12. thejrod2006 - Feb 6, 2014 at 12:56 AM

Most of the things DerpBoer does makes little to no sense. Welcome to the club, Jagr.

Well if DeBoer is looking for scoring balance…….having all four lines not scoring seems balanced to me…
