Flyers make Timonen late scratch with foot injury

Feb 1, 2014, 4:13 PM EDT

Kimmo Timonen managed to participate in Philadelphia’s first 55 contests of the 2013-14 campaign, but a nagging foot injury is preventing him from playing against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Flyers defenseman was hurt while blocking a shot on Tuesday, but played through the pain in Thursday’s 5-3 loss to Anaheim. Unfortunately, he also was largely responsible for the Ducks’ shorthanded game-winning goal:

Andrej Meszaros is filling in for Timonen this afternoon. Meszaros, who has four goals and 15 points in 32 contests this season, was scratched for three straight contests.

Philadelphia is battling the Los Angeles Kings as both teams try to end their recent slumps.

the guy has had a good career but it’s time to hang up the skates after this season

He doesn’t need to retire, He can still contribute but his TOI needs to be reduced. Unfortunately on this team, it’s not going to happen.

He hinted he may want to play on after this year, which is fine as long as it’s not with the Flyers. He has lost a step and seems to have lapses in attention which lead to him losing the zone. A prime example is the Ducks game leading to the eventual game winner. Streit is in the same boat, too many turnovers. I thought he’d be a good signing to replace Kimmo, unfortunately he seems to be intent on replacing the older, not as good Kimmo. They must find a way to pry Weber from the Preds.

Streit is defenitely a bust. We need to get rid if him, Coburn, and Schenn. 3 for 1 deal for Weber! Lol.
