Zach Parise is a captain once again.

On Friday, USA Hockey announced that Parise would captain the American team set to participate in the Winter Olympics in two weeks time. The American team will also have two alternates: Los Angeles captain Dustin Brown and Parise’s Minnesota teammate, Ryan Suter.

“I was pretty thrilled to get the call,” Parise said, per USA Hockey. “I’m lucky enough to join an elite list of players to be captain of the U.S.”

For Parise, the ‘C’ is a sweater letter upgrade from the 2010 games in Vancouver, where he served as an alternate to American captain Jamie Langenbrunner.

According to U.S. GM David Poile, Parise was selected from a “leadership group” that included ’10 Olympians David Backes, Ryan Callahan, Brown, Suter and Parise.

Parise currently serves as an alternate in Minnesota and, prior to signing with the Wild, captained the Devils during the 2011-12 campaign.
