Quick silences Sharks as San Jose, Los Angeles end streaks

Jan 28, 2014, 12:51 AM EDT

The Los Angeles Kings’ offense has been anemic lately, but Jonathan Quick didn’t need much help from the team’s forwards tonight. He saved all 22 Sharks shots in the Kings’ 1-0 win over San Jose.

Anze Kopitar was the only player to find the back of the net tonight and simultaneously ended Sharks goaltender Alex Stalock‘s franchise record-breaking shutout streak and Los Angeles’ 154:43 minutes scoring drought.

Jeff Carter and Jake Muzzin registered assists, but Kopitar deserves most of the credit for this goal:

This was a game of ending streaks. San Jose had won its previous six contests while the Kings had lost five in a row. Even after tonight’s contest, the Sharks have an eight-point lead over Los Angeles in the battle for second place in the Pacific Division.

San Jose will head on the road, but they will face the Western Conference’s two worst teams in Calgary and Edmonton. Meanwhile, the Kings will try to build on tonight’s victory in Phoenix on Tuesday.
